A quick word about pad-blocking NPCs....

This seems to be a thing again in 3.3. [sad]

Just visited Didi Vatermann and saw somebody getting a Wanted tag (and getting the poop shot out of them) while trying to destroy an NPC that was blocking their landing pad.
Apparently they'd tried mode-switching but the pad was blocked in every mode.

If you arrive at a surface installation and get allocated a pad that's got an NPC sitting on it, cancel the docking request, land on any flat area, deploy your SRV*, dismiss your ship, request docking in the usual way (using the regular "contacts" HUD and not your SRV HUD) and then follow your compass to your allocated boarding ramp - whereupon you'll be able to board your ship, which has magically arrived there and is waiting for you.

This also comes in handy if you have a cargo of stuff that you might not, necessarily, want the installation to scan but you'll have to land your ship a couple of km from the base to ensure you're not scanned.

That is all.

* If you don't have an SRV, I'm afraid you're hooped but I can't think of everything.

It is also good for new shiptypes

Yesterday I was denied docking for the medium pad at an outpost. The concerning NPC was still on his way to the pad, so I tried to block his approach by positioning myself over the landing zone, just high enough not to trigger the warning. He then just stopped some dozen meters above me, mystifed by that thing in his way. When I lifted my ship a bit in his direction to try and shoo him off, he actually dodged, cancelled his landing request, and waked out. "Docking request granted". :D

Some days ago at the Aegis Megaship Warlord AR something in Wuli (?) I saw a T9 launch from the single large pad, turning upwards and get stuck on the light post. Guess what: it wasn't shot by the Megaship, it just hung there, stuck, and blocked the pad.

Landing/launching seems a bit borked nowadays.

Just land on top of them, it works

That will work, but only if you're using a docking computer. Happened to me in my anaconda. Took me right into the pad and noticed a rather jarring landing. Ended up mating (rather snuggly, I might add) with an orca. She still doesn't return my calls.

Had a good incident at an outpost, while in my Krait.

I had an NPC blocking my pad, must of been going for a dump or something it took so long, but eventually they took off. Then i still got refused docking, and while trying to work why i couldn't request, a second NPC took off from the same Medium pad!
So they're stacking ships 2 deep it seems now.

TBH i don't mind NPC blocking occasionally, it makes the stations seem more alive, but if they get jammed it's not so good.
