A rewarding 48 days exploration trip

"A nice sum of money (although like most explorers I'm not in it for the money).
.
Trip statistics:
1096 Neutron stars"

.
So many people speak of their own valour and worthiness............and then do stuff like this in the same post....... Not sure why Explorers like to put themselves above others with their "for the love of it" pomposity. When it is clear from the Stats, that you must have gone nearly insane night after night after night of Neutron farming......
.
No objection to you doing it..........but don't tell us you did it for the love of it...........

I don't think you can go exploring for more than a few days unless you actually loved it. Honestly when I came back (I came back for two months after a month trip) I kept feeling the urge to get back out, I eventually succumbed about two weeks ago and I'm HAPPY to be back out here).

TLDR: I think we explorers ARE a special breed. And we're right to be a little pompous about it. ;)

Exploration is still at the bottom of the barrel for credits per hour compared to any other occupation in this game currently, even with the profit boost introduced in 1.2. The idea of going out to explore for credits alone is absurd when you factor the amount of time and repetition required to do so, it makes grinding trade runs look like fun. .......

With the exception of the neutron fields I would suggest. Being able in 1 minute to jump from one unclaimed neutron to the next ad infinitum @ 60,000 cr /minute is a good income bar anything less than a type 9 trading surely. Every now and then I had to go to a normal star to scoop. Anyone who simply goes to Sag A without grinding the neutrons is going to be far short of getting elite. I took 10 days to get there slowly, scan neutrons for only 2 days, and came back fastish in 4 days. Only worth about 30 million. Should have spent at least a week doing nothing but neutrons. But I loved getting there and getting back was a bit of a grind

Level 1 scan - just a ping from a discovery scanner
Level 2 scan - targeted scan of an unknown astronomical object
Level 3 scan - detailed scan (with a detailed surface scanner) of an astronomical object

Not in my testing...

Did just a few scans the other day of undiscovered planets with the Detailed Surface Scanner on a quick trip to the Witch Head nebula and they did not add to my L3 total (zero), instead they added to an already existing (pre-1.2) total.

My L3 scans still stand at zero and my L2 are at 258. I did a 20,000LY journey prior to 1.2, and most of the credited L2 scans were from that trip (with the Detail Scanner)

Seems to be bugged overall...

Filter the galaxy map to show non-sequence stars, then plot a course to them. No you can't scoop from them. Yes, NS and black holes pay significantly more than other Stella bodies.

How do you set that filter? I can't see any choice, it all seems to be based on commodities/trade... :(

Open Galaxy Map.
Click the 3rd tab along (I think it's called View)
Click Map (the other button from Realistic).
On the dropdown, pick Star Class.
Untick everything apart from Non Main-sequence stars.
You should notice only grey dots on the map. Those are neutron stars and black holes.

Well I got my Lakon 6 equipped and ready to go, thanks to this thread for the final bit of inspiration. RES farming was getting boring and I can't stand trading the way it is right now. Driving a truck has never been my thing. It only cost me around 6 million for the ship and mods, and I really love the view through the canopy. It's going to let me get some amazing shots.

Ah!

Looked right past that setting! But, those are only the systems that have a Neutron Star or Black Hole as the "primary". There are tons of systems that have a "normal" star as the primary and the others as companions, and those won't show up on that filter.

Perhaps these are rough indicators of areas that might have more, but I guess you need to then scope it out on the "full" Galaxy Map.

Are there any particular star types that might have a better chance of having a neutron companion?

EDIT: Looks like Type-B stars are the honeypots! ;)

I must admit. I've grown tired of farming bounties. I'm strongly considering selling my FDL and kitting out an asp. Just not sure if I want to see the center of the galaxy, or the edge.

What i love about exploration is while im fuel scooping at 30km slowly on the sun i can do other things like replying in this thread. Trading was ok but ever since the Powerplay update routes which i had usually 2-3 interdictions was more like 10-20 interdictions and those weren't players it was only NPC's.

Started in diamond back explorer fitted it with 8millions started a few days ago im now at 645 jumps from Last know civilization. I don't hunt anything in particular its mostly mindless jump and scanning and when i need to fuel i scan the suns and other planets nearby.

Diamondback can reach 30 and up in jump range its a nice little ship inexpensive bought it with rebate at some alliances system.
My biggest fear is when i come back someone kill me in the sky before i sell my carto data but then again im not planning on coming back before 2months.

When il come back il use Economical Jump so instead of 36 jumps to do 950 its gonna be more like 73.
