A Scream of help from an empty space (An Appeal to FDev)

I see the names of 4 groups I don't know anything about and have never heard of. Why have I never heard of you before despite spending literally thousands of hours in game on the forums, livestreams, on reddit, with other groups and generally am all over this game?

You are the head of some group and want to support this text? PM me, and I'll add you to the list. :)

When there were Horizons, there were beautiful statements about the plans for the game, so much was told. We thought that it was. But in fact, we got even less. And the development time is doubled. We noticed the catch only after patch 2.2. Tell me, and what were we to do? Money does not return, the time spent does not return. Well, we were sitting-silent and patient, hoping that 2.2, 2.3 patches would add something even better. No.
Why? We are not the layer of "casual" players, most of us already have 1000-3000 hours of play. Many of us are fed up. It's boring. All that could be done - done. And not once. So it goes.

Yes, these are Russian groups. The rest do not have a full page on Inara, but their society is not so large, but has a sufficient number of people. These are the first ones with whom we contacted and those who agree to support us. I hope that in time there will be more supporters.

We read, we listen. But empirical experience has instilled in us skepticism over these two years, so we rather believe that they will talk a lot, but act slowly, as usual, and little significant innovations, of course. We were just tired of being tolerant, we wanted to react that way. Personally, I have a pass to closed beta. Tell you that the beginning was not the best way? I had one hour to see, try and understand that all this will not be used on an ongoing basis, except for 3-4 innovations / changes. And all this for 4-6 months of development.

I agree.
You are correct that the things Frontier had planned for Horizons specifically multi-crew did not appear. I thought 2.0 and 2.1 were ok and what I expected from the update.
You are correct that development time is now much much longer than it was in season 1.

There is very little you/we/us (players) can do. Since we pre-ordered we were effectively gambling that it would be as good as they said. There is definitely enough of the updates there to legally satisfy Frontiers obligation to the customers. The only thing we as players can do is complain and/or not buy any more updates.

Fair enough on the support, I wish you the best of luck. I was merely trying to point out that if you read the original post it sounds like 40-60% of the community playing the game are supporting the OP when it's not the case by a long way. It's all about how the original post was worded.

Yeah this beta does not seem to have much going on... What is there in the patch notes and beta is maybe 25% of what will be there in the live game. It's a story update about Thargoids and the beta doesn't have any Thargoid content in. It's like them doing the beta for 2.0 without planet landings.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/369071-2-4-The-Return-Beta-Information
Greetings Commanders,

We’re very excited to announce that the beta for 2.4 Elite Dangerous: The Return will begin on August 17. As 2.4 will roll out in a slightly different way to our previous updates, the same will be the case for the beta.

The initial beta period will be open for those who have previously paid for beta access, it will then close for a few days to let us prepare for Open Beta, and then it will come back online for everyone to test. We’ll have full instructions on what we need testing in our beta specific forums, but just like the beta for 2.3.10 and as with previous updates, Thargoid specific content will remain a surprise and will not be present in the beta.

We will still need everyone's help in making sure that bug fixes, general improvements and more under the hood updates are tested thoroughly though.

If you do help us out by jumping in to test we’ll give you a unique tester’s decal (we'll share details of the decal on our social media channels) to use on your ships in the main game. These decals will be made available at a later date, and we’ll have more instructions on how you can get your hands on yours when the beta change list goes live on August 17.

Previously we’ve held livestreams on the run up to our releases, featuring details all about the features in the update. However, due to the nature of this update we wouldn't want to spoil the narrative or interactions that the community will have so we won't be broadcasting these reveal streams in the build up to the upcoming beta for 2.4. We’ll still keep things going with small sneak peeks here and there, but largely we really want you to discover 2.4’s secrets for yourself. After release, we’ll be hosting streams that focus on the narrative, explaining what our Commanders are discovering, explaining how you can get involved and hinting at things to come.

Although you won’t see them in the beta, from day one after 2.4’s final release the Thargoids will make their return. We can’t wait to see your interactions with the most mysterious and terrifying things you'll have seen in the Elite Dangerous galaxy to date. The dev team have put a lot of love in to 2.4 and we can’t wait to share that hard work with you.

I agree.

Yes, thank you for your understanding and support. What about the topic, those who supported the document, said that everything is fine, and there are some limits to acceptable criticism, so we decided that it looks normal. Still, the same experience and cases, many of us left the game in the 2.3 patch, remained only observers. And this is depressing.

Yes, we have already seen this message, but I repeat, we are skeptics.

Again, if someone doesn't understand what is the text about.

We do not propose to make global changes. We believe that FDev will continue to develop (or want to believe).
But for a very long time, we do not see that this development existed. There is no information or updates that develop the gameplay, patches and fixes are released rarely, critical errors are fixed for very long time.
It makes one think that there are some problems with this project. We want to know what's happening and what's coming next.

Well now, I thought the 2.point releases brought some interesting stuff - the alien ruins, the SLFs, the Thargoid stuff, the BGS (even though I do not play it) and more.

When I bought the game, I understood that it was in development. Kinda like a photograph gradually appearing in a chemical wash, or like a Polaroid picture. There are, yes, skeletal structures in place. I expect them to develop deeper. I gambled on FD's stated goals.

Two years and some 2000 hrs and a few bln later, I am still being amused. I've tried almost everything now. I've followed the Formadine Rift and Thargoid stories. I've gone exploring, but not as much as I wish.

You may say, "those aren't for me," which is fine. But don't complain on behalf of many players because the game doesn't have what you want. Trading between players? Do not want.

I am also capable of parsing the posts in this thread, and it seems a majority of posters don't agree with you. It just looks like another "why can't the game be like X" thread. If you can't find anything interesting to do in this whole worldspace, then it's time to leave. Others are waiting (sometimes even patiently) for FD to continue development.

We, a community of Elite Dangerous players, are making a call for a change.....

Quantify "we" - five players, twenty players, one hundred players? Unless your community makes up the majority of the community (all of us), are you really in the position to demand anything?

Well, some of these things may be addressed in the coming "core gameplay" update that's supposed to come after 2.4.

Only 47 replies. I speculate there maybe will be 50 more. Surely this not the bulk of the community. Keep your head up AiryKai. There are many who will remain silent or have already been lost. +1

Ohh, another "why ED isn't EvE" thread.

Look, I want to see ED certainly improved in lot of cases. But yours are a bit...one sided. Game focus is on PvE for a reason. BGS isn't there to meta game it, but enjoy randomness of results and see how galaxy evolves. As BGS does nothing is far from truth and you know it - otherwise people wouldn't lose their cool over system changes for PP and BGS.

Speaking of which, where are our Freedom Fighters ? My player owned minor faction's neighbourhood is over-run with these stinking PP factions, who want to flip system control to suit their own nefarious objectives. I just want them all moved out of my neighbourhood. But.... there are no mechanics within the game to do this. And yes, I'm seriously about to lose my cool over this.

If anyone thinks that a poster is violating forum rules, hit that 'report this post' link and let the mod team handle it. Otherwise, please refrain from backseat moderation. Thanks.

I either ride shotgun or stand on the roof.

I don't see an issue with asking folks to mind their tongues, or stay on topic, or otherwise trying to prevent the need to generate more work for the moderators, so long as it's kept civil, but feel free to tell me I'm off my gourd - I can handle being wrong.

It makes one think that there are some problems with this project. We want to know what's happening and what's coming next.

Frontier are careful because there's danger making promises in case there's a problem with code and they have to cancel, after promising. They also get sales from making announcements big, at trade shows (Gamescom, EGX) and to journalists who can reach many people with big news (when it's ready).

But (small example); When Holome started, a girl on forums wanted longer hair for female character. There was a big fight on forums, some say yes, some say no. Frontier said .. nothing .. but now (2.4) there are longer hairstyles. Frontier listened and worked in silence .. but they DID do that work. I believe Frontier are invested in ED. They have new offices, new Chinese investors and a huge country of potential new players there, new platforms, PS4 etc. It also makes good sense for them to develop ED with financial security behind them (that's money in the bank, not borrow + variable interest rates).

ED is very (very) playable. It can be more, and step by step is becoming more .. but the best way your groups can support ED is to play what's in the game and make specific suggestions if something STOPS you playing what's there. If there's something you want, great, suggest it but undermining Frontier (giving the sense that they're doing it all worng, need to change direction etc.) is not helpful.

Play the game as it is. Enjoy it. Hope for more .. but 'Frontier change yourself'? No. Bad idea.
There's a reason you love Elite already .. Frontier made it.

Start a thread? (I like the idea of freedom fighting too, mafia scum! Huge development priority though? 50/50)

We want to know what's happening and what's coming next.

We all do. But FD have chosen to be cautious with making announcements, probably largely based on past experience where making announcements also backfired.

If you want more "open" development, you might be best investing in Star Citizen.

Yes, thank you for your understanding and support.

For clarity I do agree with some of your points but I do not support the movement/action spoken about in this thread. I think if it was worded differently I could support it but right now I do not want to even though I agree :)
My personal view - Instead of pre-ordering don't buy the next update/season/or whatever they do next until the content is in the game and you want to buy it. Wait until release before spending the money. I can't do that as I have the LEP already but hey-ho I knew what I was buying and don't regret it.

Good luck with your thing though.

Now I don't know what I will see here in the future. Because I don't get any information.
So where are FDev? Let them come and say their own opinion.

I hate to break this to you sport but they don't have to jump to your whistle. They are just a wee bit busy with 2.4 right now, in case you hadn't noticed.

Hi all, I would like to show support for the sentiment in the OP. I purchased E: D when it first came out and I was quite satisfied with the first season, but of course wanted the game to develop further. Due to this I pre-purchased Horizons when first became available (basically purchasing the first season again with it -this was before they lowered the price). This was a big mistake. Nvere before and never since have I felt so scammed by a game purchase. I do not presume to know the truth, but my feeling is that Frotier took the money I gave them to develop E: D furhter and instead developed Planet Coaster with it. With the exception of planetary landings themself there was no other addition in season 2 that worked for me and in fact the Engineers made me quit the game altogether. Not to mention the plethora of serious bugs. I am only here because I purchased Oculus Rift recently and wanted to revisit Elite with it - so I cheked the forums as well. SO far I played about just under 2 hours and have no motivation to continue further. At this point I cannot refund the money I invested to Horizons (altough I wish I could) so the only thing option left for me are appeals like this, that hope to persuade Frontier that they have a debt to all people who purchased Horizons (notice I avoid the terms player - because many do not play anymore) and that they now use the money from Plaůnet Coaster sales to develop Elite further.
TLDR: I am with OP.

EDIT: E:D --> E: D
