A Simple QoL Request

Would be nice to know what my stored exploration scans are worth.

A single field, under statistics, that tells me how much value I have stored in my ship computer. Then I can see if it's worth turning around or carry on to get more. Would be the value of the base scan data. 50% for first discovery bonus would not be included.

Unclaimed Data Scans: 11,481,997 Cr

I can see combat bonds and bounties. I can see scanned data point value and intel package payouts. However, I can't see my exploration value.

+1 although I suspect the answer is that it's a formula that is quite traffic heavy to the exploration data-server which is fairly slow as it's not needed for millisecond to millisecond gameplay so refreshing this value could take a significant amount of time and bandwidth.

I like the idea though.

This would update whenever a scan is done. Couple of lines of code should do it to add the value of the scan to the total. Would be no different than number of jumps or LY traveled stats in my mind.

I agree, would be a nice little QoL feature.
Though like Alex mentioned, not sure of the overhead.
Things aren't always a simple as they seem. Like the "why can't we see all engineer blueprints instead of just pinning one" argument. I found out in a recent stream that there's actually quite a bit of overhead with implementing that, and it's not as technically simple as it appears.
Since we're talking about hundreds of billions of data points available to explorers, I can see where there could be the potential for some technical hurdles.
Heck, just remember what a big deal it was to get the sell-data-by-the-page implemented a while back.

But yeah, if it can be sensibly implemented, then I'm all for it.

Probably lots of salt and complaints when it goes down too... after someone claimed the stars you thought were yours.

Well, the OP suggested that first discovery bonuses shouldn't be included, specifically to avoid that problem.

Doesn't FDev already have this data? Explorers that die in the black due to a bug can get their exploration data returned.

It doesn't need to refresh constantly. The system could be like the Statistics tab that fetches data only when you view it.

I thought that through before suggesting it. The 50% first discovery bonus isn't included, so you still get the same amount even if someone else has turned it in after you scan. If you are the first to turn it in, you get the 50% bonus on top of the estimate given.

Until scanning is more interesting than point and wait, I'll file this under "Nice to Have".

Right now exploration is so uninteresting it hurts every time I honk.

Maybe when we have an Advanced Detailed Discovery Scanner, and we can all have ADD... squirrel?
