A Slaver's Rant. (The hypocrisy is over 9000)

I do support slavery IRL, with nearly every purchase and service done.
IT's not that I'd like to, it's that I can't function in society without.
But I don't pretend to not notice I stand somewhere on the pyramid of suffering.

Once again, it's because their sense of moral superiority falls flat the second it comes to anything tangible.
Let me play my game of slaving. Should I defend slaving in powerplay, absolutely, just like any commodity sensitive to powerplay. But for a CMDR to support a power for abolition not because of expansion, but because of the morality of abolition, is just foolish. Some CMDRs are so PC that they want slaving out of the game

Or because they RP a character with a certain set of morals. It seems you have great difficulty seperating in-game cmdrs from the humans controlling them. In-game I shoot people who forgot to pay their speeding ticket. In real-life I rarely do that.

People hate on Imperial slavery because they have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it actually is. They hate the name. It's no different than when Anton LaVey started the Church of Satan when it isn't about devil or Satan worship.

You're a make believe slaver, and the people taking offense of that are make believe anti-slavers. What's the problem again?

A SLAVER'S RANT*** mODS PLEASE FIX TITLE!

I read a lot of CMDRs bashing the FICTITIOUS slavery in the game.
And this makes me very butt hurt.
Why?

Because it's a mechanic of the game that serves to sustain fictitious professions. (Slavery + Smuggling= Sluggery)
Just like killing pilots is the means for powerplay, just like ganking traders is the means for pirating, just as killing pilots for the Lord , bulletin board, is the means for ranking and what not.

Slavery is seen as unethical but ,Killing is wrong, so why is it ethical to kill pilots (npcs or otherwise) ?
Where are the flower children blockading CZ's and powerplay priority ports chanting kumbaya?

But most of all, slavery is still around in IRL. Just because we've moved slaves out of our homes, doesn't mean our homes aren't fueled by slavery.
Most of your tech, clothes, cars, and trinkets are the product of what is essentially slavery/"indentured servitude"/"sweat shops".
So if you care so much about psuedo-slavery enough to shut the means for someone to roleplay as a slaver, why not stop buying foreign goods IRL and be an activist?
That's right, it's cause you're lazy, and your morals end right where your mouth ends.
So lay off my favorite profession. I bet your honest trade goods are made by slaves, or linked in someway to slavery anyways. You're just as complicitious in the game as you are IRL.

I role play as some one who finds slave trading distasteful at the very least

Wait... I'm a little confused by this thread. Is this an argument against players that RP hating the slave trade? Because that's kinda the point. The trade of slaves is part of a moral RP of the characters some of us play. My RP character hates the idea of slavery in general and want's it to end. But me as a gamer, I love the idea that it's in the game. If I see a player as a pirate with a bit of a small bit of a heart, I mint instead of robbing the player, take him out. I love that's a moral choice I can make. As a game mechanic alone why would it even be in the game if not for RP reasons?

Hey, enslaving people in a video game doesn't make someone do it IRL! Crap like that makes me want to steal a car and drive recklessly through a shopping center. If media influenced who were are that much there would be a huge community of people who, having seen Disney films, only found romance by dressing up as anthropomorphic animals. People would eat mushrooms and think it made them super heroes or eat pills in the dark listening to electonic music. We would define what the best of something is entirely by price, and seemingly.have to work forever at a menial task to afford it.

Now I'd you'll excuse me, I have to rearrange the boxes in my basement closet so that every bit of space is taken but none of it pokes out.
