A solution to the Tritium tank/storage issue?

It's well documented about some commanders not liking that you can't transfer Tritium directly from the hold to the fuel tank. Personally it makes a lot of sense to me that you can't transfer directly, it's like saying that I have an arbitary number of petrol cans in the boot of my car, why can't I transfer petrol directly to the tank from the one, many or fewer cans?

A potential solution to this is to be able to set a particular size for the Tritum tanks. You'd be forced to have a minimum of 1000 units (u) (as it is now), but other than that you could set the size of the tank up to the maximum space available (or perhaps an arbitary maximum size). The change of size of tank could only be done in an administration system (since there would inevitably be some construction work involved). From the point you've changed the size of tank, it would then behave exactly the same as it does now, just with a larger tank and a smaller hold.

If you wanted to do the reverse and make your tank smaller, then any excess Tritium would just be moved to your hold.

No mechanics needed to move Tritium from the hold to the tank and explorers could have the maximum tank size they wanted. Everyone's happy!

Whilst I'm talking about Tritium and tanks - I've never really liked the phrase "donate tritium"... As the owner of the carrier, I'm not donating anything, I'm just filling the tank. Could this be amended to something more appropriate?

I agree with most of what you've said, but you haven't actually given us any substantive (usable) information on how to make the transfer. I'm now 7500ly from my jump off point, the tank is down to 112, and I can't find anything that will let me draw from the cargo or deposit to fill my tank again. I deposited over 4500 to the system, how do I get it back?

Thanks. I tried that, and while the numbers changed, in the end, there was nothing that was put in the TC's tanks. And if I'm using it right, then I can only move as much fuel as my individual ship (not the TC) can carry. I'll go back and see if I was missing something, but for now, I've found the "Transfer" menu and done some stuff in it; with no results.

So that I'm clear, I have an Anaconda but it has only (for now) 128T of cargo space. If I'm following this, when I buy tritium it goes into those tanks, but will not go directly to the TC. TC. Thus, I need to run the 8 or 9 trips necessary to move 1000T of Tritium to my TC while only being able to move 128T at a time. There has to be an easier way. That would like filling up your boat at the dock, but you must first unload a small truck that carries only 1/10 of what you need to go back and forth between the pumps and the ship.

Or am I really screwed up on this fueling the BEAST?!?

Cool idea of the OP ,, though I have to say always seems like a bit of a storm in a teacup to me, that transfering tritium via a ship is so so awful, how can I live!?

Still a good idea to sell different fuel tanks ... and while at it, how about making it that if you invest carrier capacity in a large tritium tank (therefore can't use the space for trade goods) that might affect Tritium use per Ly, in a good way, exploration build. A 500Ti tank might also be enough for some people, adding 500T to carrier capacity and giving worse jump consumption figures?

Could this be amended to something more appropriate?

You need to CONFIRM the transfer, at the bottom of the inventory screen?

Yep, hit that button. Right now I'm 17500ly from Sol, with no stations or tankers nearby. So it's not like jumping out and just hauling a few T back and forth. Aaargghhhhh.

25000 tons no matter which way fuel capacity relates to cargo. The problem is having to use a ship as a go between to fill the tank.
To date knowone has donated a drop so yeah lose this and just call it a fuel tank.
Also how can l be donating fuel if I'm taking it straight from MY cargo to MY fuel tank.
All needs addressing.

Are you able to transfer anything from the carrier to your ship (and back again)?

Transfer button might be greyed out for a host of reasons but a relog might work.

I'm was going to try that, but as I noted in an earlier post i'm 17,500ly from Sol. There's nowhere within 9500ly to buy stuff. But let me jump in and see what happens.

Oh im working on the assumption you've tritium in your cargo hold? If so you use your biggest ships hold to fill from fc cargo to donate tank whilst docked

After moving the Tritium to your ship from cargo you then need to go the the Tritium store in the FC main menu and deposit the Tritium from your ship to the Tritium store!

Wow, Frontier sure could have done a better job with this system. Of course, with some of us, we're heading out to the deep space areas that are thousands of light-years from anyone, and the reality is that there would be NO fuel stops of any kind. So, I guess this is a reasonable alternative. Then again, making you mine for fuel and then refine it would be another good choice.

You can certainly do that. I've had carrier only a couple of weeks, still adding services. Found myself a nice spot to mine painite, LTD's and opals but by accident have not only filled the main tritium tank but my reserve is already at 500T and rising fast, haven't bought, any. I'd think taking a stored mining ship with you has to be a must on an exploration trip, for emergencies or re-routes.
