A thought on possible RP battles.

Eventually when the game comes out and the trio of factions get added, assuming there's no actual full scale wars going on between them we can assume lots of bush/proxy conflicts and this gives players a LOT of wiggle room especially if some ROE were set down beforehand and that we could communicate with the other ships by typing messages, not just a selection of macro like choices.

Imagine there's a neutral system between Imperial and Federation space for a moment, both sides want to grab it so begin working there whilst keeping a windward eye on the other powers vessels as they flit in and out the dock.

But of course skirmishes break out, both sides blame one another and point fingers and you could have a stand off with ships from both sides doing their own blockade of the system or space port. Using interdiction to stop the other nations ships and threatning them with distruction unless they depart the system etc. This of course does not go down well with the other power...

Whilst it would take some organising as well as gentlemanly agreements so that say...err..some new Imperial player pops in on his sidewinder, gets grav-tethered by Fed Annaconda and is NOT annihilated for being an easy kill. but...its doable.
 
If you enter a war zone then opposing forces will try to destroy you well the npc's will, if you see a pc on the other side you could try to come to an arrangement.
Im hoping there will be a general role-play server so that it is an option to talk your way out of conflict.
But what you mentioned at the end is already in place more or less, its what the security forces do when they can you. It would be just as easy to scan for faction reputation and have a response triggered accordingly.
