A way to get Thousands of Players on Elite

Dear FDev,

I have played your game for many years and sitting at 5000 + hours into your game Elite Dangerous, Triple Elite, a couple gold medals on leaderboards, yata yata yata...
Point is I play the sh*t out of your game because i genuinely love this game.

BUT

I notice your lack of marketing keeps the world ignorant to the general masses of the gaming community.
When I saw the Avengers film in movie theathers do you know what I saw before the movie started?
A video game commercial. A 30 second commercial for WARFRAME, one of the top 5 most played Free-2-Play games in the world. Do you know why they have such a huge player base?
They MARKET.

I've wondered why so many times why can't FDEV do the same?
I know you guys don't put alot of money back into Elite and it shows but hear me out please.
Throw some of that ARX $$ you guys make into Commercials.

If you make a brilliant commercial, 30 Seconds.
Dropping that commercial at the start of a SPACE film playing in movie theaters, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and other Online streaming outlets consumers use you will see a HUGE spike in players coming to you game.

If i log into Prime Video to watch "The Expanse" and see a 10 second Clip of Elite Dangerous, i might click it because it looks like the show....
If i go on Youtube to click on a video that has anything to do with outer space, flying, shooting and I see a clip of Elite Dangerous I just might click it.
If go on Hulu to watch Star Trek, which has ads by the way and I se an elite Dangerous ad, I might click it.

Point I am making here is that there is an untapped market you guys are neglecting.
Your great at making a brilliant title but your marketing is severely lacking.
Ya you guys broke 19,000 players on Steam with Fleet Carriers but those numbers are still pathetic, im sorry but its true. Dead By daylight has well over 75,000 players a Day on Steam because why? THEY MARKET.
They have commercials, Ads everywhere.

Business FACT
MARKETING is 50% of the LIFE BLOOD of a business to strive.

So why on gods green earth have you guys not done the same thing?
Do you guys not want more money?
Do you guys not want a bigger player base to spend money on Arx to buy all the cosmetics? Hell. me alone Ive spent wll over 1000$ on Ship kits and skins alone....
Do you know how many players like me are out that will do the same if they knew your game existed?

With Odyssey around the corner you could snatch up all of the fans of Flight Sims, Space Sims, Shooters like Halo, Warframe, Star Citizen, Call of Duty, Battlefield and so forth...

In conclusion. You guys need to step it up, pretend like you want to make money.
The more $$ your game makes your company, the more you can put in your company, into Elite's developement and the development of other games.

FOOD for thought.
From one of your fans of the game you guys made.

The stuff we usually mute or skip.
U-block Origin has been a godsent. I can't even watch Youtube clips on my phone anymore when using the app, it's awful getting an ad after almost every short video.

As for cinemas (the only place where you kind of have to sit through them, despite paying a lot of money for the ticket), are those still around?

Been years since I've been in a cinema.

Been years since I lasted watched TV, or visited a Cinema. Are they still rolling out weird stuff like this..

Ha I actually remember that ad. At the time I didn't really understand the lyrics but got the gist of the ad anyways (English isn't my first language), although the music is quite hilarious.

Last time was last year, and only because I had to kill some time. Was a struggle to find a film to watch, 90% on offer was superheros and animation. Can't say I miss it although I'll make exceptions for blockbusters that I'm actually interested in (thin on the ground, cinema or otherwise). Combined with the often poor image quality in standard cinemas, an obnoxious public, the cost for tickets and now Covid I prefer to watch stuff at home.

Online Streaming services still Advertisements, All it takes is a few seconds to catch the attention of a person who enjoys outer space.

That is more than enough, it's more than what FDEV is doing to market their game.
there is still an untapped market thats being ignored.
It can help bring more people into the game, A few stated "whats an ad? let me be an azz and not give a decent reply since i lack the IQ to procress one." smh

Majority of people stuck at home now due to the covid19, Home Enterainment Industry is in boom now.
Why not take advantage of that?
Promotion, Advertisement, keeps people engaged and spending money.
This much is true.

Even if alot of them just hit SKIP on the ad, so what, there are still people who will watch if it catches their attention.
And those few who do watch it, may look it up and buy it.

Its just another way to fill up the empty void of space with more players.

Which online streaming services do you mean though? Youtube and Twitch? Those are ad-free for me on PC, and if I watch something on my phone, as soon as the 'skip ad' button appears I'll press it - if the button doesn't appear and I have to sit through a 30 second ad for a couple of minutes of content, I will just stop watching altogether. What the ad is about doesn't even register for me any longer.

Netflix doesn't serve ads (the cheek if they would - I'd cancel my sub the same day), don't know about the rest as I don't use them.

Hulu has the bold move of still having ads even if you pay for the service, and you need to pay for a super premium service to not get them.

Or just run Ublock origin on a free account and not deal with that nonsense altogether.

You may not get ads because you paid for that services but just because you don't get ads doesnt mean everyone else doesnt.
A hugenumber of people rather use YOUTBE for free than pay for it, they can get ads. They can be potential new players.

That's quite frankly hilarious. Bold indeed.

Marketing costs millions if done correctly, ED just isn't fashionable enough to warrant that kind of expenditure. It's 6 years old too.

I think FD are worth around 500 million, or they were last I checked. They don't have the wedge.

You generally cannot expand a niche product to the entire marketplace, no matter the ad density. Best you can do is find more folks that appreciate that niche product, and the increase in customers may well not justify the ad spend. Probably better to first understand what players resonate with the game, and then figure out how much of the population shares those characteristics and have a PC gaming rig, and then figure out what increase you'll see if you can grab 10-20% of those folks. That way, you have an idea if the ad spend will be worth it.

What's the point advertising something you cant be proud of ? ATM elite may recieve more backslash than love. The whole game is in some "stase" state with some experiments , and tbh experiment did not go that well.

Also new player experience is really hard imo. If you are totaly new to either flightsim or space game elite is so hard to understand. You have to go throught that just to see that you have no aim if you dotn create one yoursefl , and many part of the game are not QoL friendly. Add that to the FDev history of update failz , I'm not sure people might give this game a good review.

And imagine if community start to form around new gameplay , and in 1 day , FD crash it all. Amazing .

Earlier this year player populetion (on steam) went from 6K to 11K , with 21K peek record in june if i remember well. Now population will decrease as they failed to maintain fun in credit making loop.

Many people are lost , because they were part of something and now , their are just alone in space.

But hey , FC paint/kit sold well i guess.

Many here are talking about instant gratification. FDev seems to seek instant gratification over long term run.

Cant talk for odydelay, and tbh recently they madesome effort in the communication part. But when you come from 0 it's hard.

We'v seen it with carrier , just some new gameplay bring back so many players , so the game itself is appealing , but what they did with it is not.

Edit : sorry talked to fast they are doing really great , and we are just milking them : "Frontier Revenue increased by over 160% to £89.7 million in FY19 (FY18: £34.2 million), which was 2.4 times the previous record of £37.4 million in FY17 "

Nice to see they are doing well, but i dont see where elite is going with that.

Remember when Youtube wasn't owned by Google, and how people just uploaded their videos for fun as opposed to make money? Now there's even a premium version of it, as if I'd pay for Youtube. Get outta here.

I mean, if others are willing to put up with ads, it's a free internet they can do as they please - but I reckon a sizeable portion of users knows how to use ad blockers (it's literally the first thing I install on my browser when I set up a new computer or phone), and given how ads can be a major vector from a security viewpoint (plus bandwidth plus just being straight out obnoxious), I'm going full on scorched earth on them with zero regrets these days.

And if Youtube stops existing because of lack of ad revenue (as if lol) there'll be either something else taking its place, or I'll simply spend less time of my life wasting away hours watching inconsequential fluff.

Clearly you didnt read the 2019 Finacial Report FDEV has listed on their website.
Elite Dangerous last year made them 35 Million euros and they only put back in 4 Mill.

They have the money to make it happen and choose not to.
