A way to get Thousands of Players on Elite

Once Odyssey comes out, FDev will have something they can connect to players of many gaming genres.
Gotta have an open mind and see the bigger picture...
SpaceLegs can get the push Elite Dangerous needed to bridge that gap between a niche game and full blow Popular Space title.

Clearly you didnt read the 2019 Finacial Report FDEV has listed on their website.
Elite Dangerous last year made them 35 Million euros and they only put back in 4 Mill.

They have the money to make it happen and choose not to.

If this is real , it's truly depressing. It mean Elite is somehow their milkcow and we give the milk. But this matches my feeling of elite being corean MMORPG managment in europe.

35 million.......that's a bit of an ad campaign there, but not much of one.

They won't spend money on advertising a game that they know doesn't work as well as it could, after 6 years. Odyssey won't do much to help either.

There's much better channels to garner attention for games these days. Social meh-dia, Tw@er, YT influenzas, heck even games websites running articles - on PC run a Steam promotion, and given almost all these formats allow for comments word-of-mouth will work its magic provided your product is good enough. Why pay for ads in this day and age, for customers (gamers) who are so easily reachable already via those channels.

99% of my games purchases were as a result of one of the above (except Twitter, I steer well clear of that cesspool), not a single one from an ad - which are known to be misleading and light on information anyways.

@OP

Well if you want people to come to Elite, sure advertise,

If you want them to stay then offer engaging content, a living universe, reasons to participate and commit which funnily enough is the best advertising of all.

I read more. "Revenue increased by over 160% to £89.7 million in FY19 (FY18: £34.2 million), which was 2.4 times the previous record of £37.4 million in FY17 "

You may not get ads because you paid for that services but just because you don't get ads doesnt mean everyone else doesnt.
A hugenumber of people rather use YOUTBE for free than pay for it, they can get ads. They can be potential new players.
The only game ads we freetubers see is this obnoxious GoT license that is trying to monetise it as much as possible but Season 8 must be a real pain for their cheap, crap game.

No idea about CQC because the last time I played it was on the xbone a year ago and all I saw was the lobby menu.
Give it another go - it's by far the slickest experience I've gone through in recent times with Elite. Queue up from the comms menu, I always instantly had a match, and got into it very shortly after. And then just match after match until your carrier jumps (or you get bored). This is on PC though, not sure how populated Xbox servers are.

Thousands of players? Ha.

I mean telling your new players that they are progressing too fast from mechanics that weren't their fault, that they should enjoy every nerve pinching part of the grind, while high-fiving each other as you tell them you'll happily blow their unengineered large ships to pieces for fun in Open is a great way to generate new interest for the game.

Don't you think? :) This should be part of the advertisement process.
