A weird encounter, may have been a hack but definatly an expliot if not.....

I had the weirdest encounter yesterday with a player in a viper

I saw him cruising along with a 14,000 bounty so I pulled him over in my ASP

I see he has 17% hull left and he immdietely starts bad mouthing me about attacking him for a measly 200 credit bounty

I check and he only has 200 now but before the interdiction he had 14,000

"Ok sorry my mistake"
i tell him he's free to go, despite being in my sights I could have easily killed him

I go back to super cruise and I kid you not, 30 seconds later I'm interdicted and guess who it is?

Same guy, 100% hull

He did NOT have time to go to a station and pay his repair bill

He also now has no bounty at all and starts shooting me, I decide it's not worth my time and hit a shield cell

Noise goes off, no effect on my shields recharge

Mg chaff seems to hold him off and just before my shields are about to fail I press shield cell again, nothing, does not work at all and I take some heavy damage


Right, I head back, repair and seek him out

See him again, bounty is now 9000 somehow, I double check it's the right guy, interdict him and he now has no bounty at all, he's clean even from a Warrent scan, and him hit with everything I have, his shields go down but he speeds away and turns to meet me head on

I know what's coming so I hit 4 pips to shields and yeah he rams me head on, there's a massive crash, my shields are down and I have 6% hull and a breached canopy

I hit FSD and look at him, he had no shields before the impact and he still has 100% hull


I limp back to the station blind, dock with 8 seconds to spare

I leave the station and he Interdicts me again.....


I submit, FSD and log off once I'm sure he's not following


I really have no idea what to make of what happened

If it's who I think it was, yeah, I'm pretty suspicious too.

I've been in Solo mode for a few days now, because there has been a sudden rise in the number of players behaving like this.

I do hope you reported this using the in game mechanic for reporting players. It sends along data logs to help Frontier figure out what is going on. Cheaters are going to cheat weather it is online or with deflated footballs.

that is strange to say the least. got any of it on video?
what was his loadout? because if under heavy fire lower class cell banks have hard time overcoming the receiving damage, so it may look like they are doing nothing.

Anyone who peruses the 'certain cheat' forum will not be surprised. They are editing files. The info is all there. I passed it onto FD but im sure they are monitoring it too. Its sites like this that made me switch from MP games to SP only. I used to BF1942, 2, 3 & 4 until i'd had enough of the cheats that exist in this world and just quit playing MP altogether. Hence why I play Solo and only buy SP games.

And bounties are being strange at the moment, with logoff/logon apparently clearing them.

Suggest you report the player anyway using the ingame mechanic or perhaps via the support site. FD can take a look and hopefully determine if its just something screwy going on, or else someone using a hack or exploit.

ticket him for FD to check, if they can be bothered. it sound svery much like hacking to me but without any logged proof its impossible to be sure

That's a hack that is out already and what you get for choosing Peer 2 Peer. There are hacks out there that give you unlimited hull (internals still get's damage though), teleport, unlimited pips to i think exist, etc etc etc.

The op sounds like he's doing some PvP bounty hunting as such he wouldn't be welcome In mobius which is strictly PvE. just saying ;)

I've seen the script for unlimited hull. At the moment components can still take damage, but i guess they will find a way to stop that as well.

Can't understand why people buy games to not play them, but obviously people do.

Use the report function, its the best way to take down these guys if FD can detect the cheating (perhaps they put them on a watchlist for observation).

Funny things, over on that hacking fourm, they actually seem to like the idea of FD implementing something like Punkbuster. I guess when punkbuster is doing its stuff, it makes it easier for the hackers to track what needs to be changed in order to make things happen. The quote was something like "If they implement punkbuster i'll be able to make the ship fly circles around stations" :O Crazy.

Yeah everyone should be ticketing the hell out of that. BUT! FD can't be bothered with that. They probably can't fix it anyway. They can't seem to get most things working properly lol. Seriously though these guys when enough start doing it will ruin it all and fd will not be able to stop it. Which really really really sucks. I wish they would stay on top of things. They also need to have the system tell us who we were killed by when we are killed. Not just go straight to the restart screen. I mean a way to also go back and look in maybe the info panel instead of it clearing.

The wanted system is seriously bugged since 1.07, i believe.
When you get a bounty or a fine you cannot pay it. But when you log out and back in again the bounty and wanted status are gone...

Doesn't explain the other fishy stuff, but at least the bounties changing. I wouldn't even cosider it exploiting as there is nothing to prevent this bug to my knowledge.

I would really like to see FDEV design of player arbitration(checking that players don't cheat). It is not possible to do it flawlessly, but you can always gather enough telemetry to ban all cheaters ex post or semi-automatically. I've worked on it for a long time, but it is far from easy in p2p environment. At least, there is no real money value in cheating so far.

Report him in game. Name and shame there. enter time occurred as well.

FD will review the server side log of the encounter (using that time stamp provided) to look for cheats and other suspicious activity, may ask you for your netlogs as well, and could ultimately revoke their license for the game. (So cheaters beware). If all was legit or simply server side glitches/lag, they will tell you for certain if that was the case (and apologize)

So either way report it. For all our best interest.
