A word of warning to anyone on their way to the galactic core.

Wait until at least the New Year.

Or a least don't enter the core sectors as something post release has broken some sectors of space in that area of the map. Some of them are utterly broken and (in this order); will initially disconnect you during hyperspace, then never let you log back in (you will be stuck on the spinning ship screen no matter what you do), then when game support finally gets to your ticket and moves you back to the station you last docked at (25,000 light years away) you will find your character has been effectively wiped of all accumulated trade, combat, and exploration stats..

This has been my particular experience anyway, it may not be yours, hopefully others will have better luck. But I know there are players headed out that way this week and they should have been made aware of some major issues with this part of the map.

I've been in touch with game support about this over the last few days and from what I gather the issue may not get resolved for some time, maybe in the New Year?

Here's my horror story...

Wow.
I can understand (and expect) some bugs. But they should be able to fix your situation without wiping everything out. That's just plain wrong. :(

Yeah, I'm wondering if they effectively cleared my save but forgot to re-enter all the accumulated stats (except credit balance and rank, which were restored). Still haven't heard anything back off them and I probably won't now until after the Christmas period.

How long did they take to deal with your ticket?

A very similar issue has happened to me but a lot earlier on my journey to the galactic center and so I decided not to stray too far off from populated part of space.

I got stuck on Dec 19th and received a reply on Monday I think.

Then today I got stuck again, and they were in touch within an hour of me reopening the ticket. Moved me again, got stuck. Replied within another hour, and it was finally decided to move me out of the galactic core region and back to the station I was last at so I could at least play the game over Christmas. On logging in, I see all my stats were wiped in the process. Sent a ticket a few hours ago, and not had a reply this time.

To be fair I think they did what they could. Either a bug wiped me out or game support screwed up resetting my character. I won't know for a few days I guess.

Does seem to be a problem with the further you get away from core systems, and i can imagine the processing overheard increases when you get close to the core.

However, i also noticed when i was having troubles that jumping or logging in during quiet hours (Euro daytime) enabled me to progress further. Once past the bad patch, found things got better again. But i was nowhere as far as the core.

Now THERE is a reason to rage quit!
OMG, so sorry for your troubles, but thank you so much for the warning! I'll start heading in a different direction for a while.

Hehe, I'm not a rage-quitter, I must have the patience of a saint to spend my first 50 odd hours of gametime after release hyperspacing to the galactic core :p:D

I'm more concerned about getting my statistics back. I was quite proud of reaching 4,000 visited star systems even though it doesn't count towards ranking or anything other than a stat to look at. I'll ragequit it I'm forever stuck on a paltry 16 visited systems though! j/k ;)

Thanks for the head's up Erimus, I just bought my first Asp for the sole purpose of heading out that way. I've only been as far as the Pleiades so far in my old Cobbie, with no troubles I might add.

Maybe I'll do some practice runs to other closer nebulas first , Witch Head, Smoke Stack , Orion etc.

Hope you get all your stuff reinstated fella.

Cheers,

SK.

That sounds like black hole implementation from frontier. It sucks all your assets and only your memory survive because of some memory chip implant, Peter F. Hamilton style :)
Jokes aside, thanks for the warning as this is exactly where I would go next after I get my Asp running.

so not heading for the core, thankfully my aims at the moment are still to get beyond the sidewinder, and also get involved in political operations, and seeing if we can expand the colonizedspace

That's awful, OP. It's quite clear that FD rushed this release out the door. I've defended them somewhat..but stuff like this is indefensible. Entire sections of the gameworld are actually unplayable..bugs all over..faction influence, one of the key selling points of this game, aren't working..tell ya what. I'm an Actor/VO guy but I sidehustle with bartending..and if I ever left my bar as disorganized, non-functional, and just plain MESSY after a shift as FD left ED when they "released" it..I'd be fired on the spot.

and my bar manager is a personal friend.

FD: No doubt you all deserve a break, I love your game..but you can't do this to people. get this right, ASAP, or these servers are closed by June because lack of players, and Chris Roberts will be overwhelmed with new customers. real talk.

The fact that they haven't handtested all 200 billion start systems obviously indicates a rushed release :) Amatures... ROFL

coulda sworn OP was speaking of "galactic core"..seems an important part of the gameworld to test, no? and its the code that generates the systems that's clearly bugged. that's a gamewide problem, even if it only manifests in certain areas. definitely should have been handled before *cough "release".

You guys are getting ridiculous, there is no way they can test all system they generate, core or not. I bet we will be running into bugged systems for years to come before they clean it up. There are rushed things in this release, but some bugs very far from the populated areas (and even in them) should be expected.
(couldn't think I would be defending Frontier for anything but this is just so obvious I can't pass.)

galactic core was reached months ago, there is nothing there.

The core isn't my destination. I'm crossing it as its the quickest route to where I'm heading (the Scutum-Centaurus Arm). Besides, there are some really nice sites in the core to visit in the sectors that aren't broken (see link). Its not all about Sagittarius A.
