Whenever you run the launcher and get the UPDATE REQUIRED pop-up, followed by CLOSE LAUNCHER, it reopens - you click Verify, and after a 15 minute wait, you try to run the game and end up with the same pop-up.
I originally posted this workaround on May 21st in the Issue Tracker, but I see it's sinking deeper amongst the myriad of other reported issues. As others are still reporting this issue, I thought I'd post it here too, as it has worked for both Epic and Steam launcher users.
If you are constantly getting the UPDATE REQUIRED, CLOSE LAUNCHER pop-up, try this.. It worked for me using the Epic Launcher - but you have to be QUICK.
There is a split second between the Elite launcher starting and the pop-up appearing.
IF you can manage to hit ENTER in that split second, the pop-up does not appear.
IF you can open the Elite launcher AND all the news item links change colour when you hover over them, you SHOULD see that the UPGRADE button at the bottom left now shows WORKING - Preparing for update, and if it does, HAVE PATIENCE. (If the links, including the X to exit do NOT work, you'll have to exit the launcher via Task Manager and try again).
For me, after 20 minutes of Preparing for update, it burst into life and actually DID start to update. Go make coffee, order take-out, see if your wife/gf or whatever remembers you and, depending on your internet download speed, (for me it was 1 hour in total) the update should complete successfully.
