A Year of Anarchy In Colonia

Hello there, friends!

Your friendly neighborhood Phisto here taking a moment to reflect back on a very interesting year in the Colonia Nebula. You see, this month of March marks the anniversary of when a handful of scruffy ne'er do wells from the storied Loren's Legion decided to pack up their ships, their guns, and head on out in search of adventure. Taking the name Loren's Reapers they sought to continue their namesake's legacy through revolutionary action in the most distant frontier of human settled space.

And my, what an adventure it has been. We've made friends, enemies, and had more than our share of good times out of the lava world orbiting asteroid lair called Robardin Rock. Here's a few quick highlights, just to bring you up to speed.

1) Securing Carcosa for The Nameless. After a series of wars, all three stations were liberated in the name (ha get it) of glorious anarchist freedom. Even better, the Nameless' control of Robardin Rock unlocked Federal and Alliance ships for the nebula. A huge boon, no doubt!
2) The Nameless have expanded their presence to five systems, including control of Earth Expeditionary Fleet which unlocked the Imperial Eagle for sale.
3) Thanks to the efforts of our allies The New Order, the No Look Here Gang saw a period of prosperity in the Pennsylvania system. While they were recently overthrown by vile reactionaries and traditionalists, the fact they rose to power at all was a great victory for the Anarchist Bloc.
4) So. Much. Writing. As many of you know, our illustrious Matt Lehman likes to write fancy words about fancy things. His first chronicle of our adventures can be found here: Into The Black.

If you enjoyed that, then you'll probably like this next bit...

He should have it out before Fleet Carriers. :p

What else does the future hold? Hard to say. Villainous forces, bitter their choke hold on the Nebula was broken, still seek the overthrow of the Nameless. But have no fear, the Reapers and her allies are up to the challenge! One thing is for sure: the fun ourselves and so many others have had will continue. If you're looking to change up your game and see some sights, why not come out to Colonia?

Don't worry about shipping all your gear out here. I know a guy that can get you a pretty good deal on a used ship or two. Financing available. ;)

Thank you to The Nameless, for allowing me to buy a Chieftain! I was able to get it fully outfitted, A-rated and engineered, except for one key piece (the closest 6A power plant is back in the bubble, so I settled for a Guardian size 5, which is terrible with heat...gotta figure something else out)

I'm curious though, why does Nameless being in charge allow purchasing Fed/Alliance ships? Is this a game mechanic? Will that selection disappear if someone else takes control?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. It was a huge surprise to all of us. Best guess might be there's some kind of hidden values for Anarchy factions that unlock stuff when they take control. @Ian Doncaster (Colonia Census Expert Man) might know more. I think @Ouberos has done some research into this matter as well?

We can only presume the ships will go away if someone else takes control of Carcosa because the ships weren't there when the Nameless weren't in control. The Nameless are the only native faction to that system and I'm not aware of any of the others doing anything special.

Thanks, man. That's kind of you to say.

We play in a very similar way Phisto, although I don't attack other players (nothing against others doing it, I just don't myself). There are lots of players who have these kind of stories, including me & the small squadron I am now a part of, most do not share the details because of concerns about BGS trolling. That you guys are so open about it is encouraging to others fighting their own corners whatever the mode they play in.

6A power plants are very popular, so they tend to get bought up quickly, but we can make them locally. Jaques has some in stock at the moment, apparently - hurry, while they last!

No, the way outfitting is affected by ... well, anything ... is not well understood, at least not in detail. Minor fame may await the first person to properly study the matter. However, what is known is that:
  • Outfitting (and shipyard) is affected by the controlling government of the facility. This affects what items they choose to stock, given the resources available at that facility.
  • Some ships (and their corresponding armour) are restricted for sale [1] to superpower-aligned governments ... and independent anarchies. Why independent anarchies have this property is unclear.
  • So, the Nameless and other Anarchy factions are able to sell certain items which the other independent factions of the nebula would not, when they take over a station. (So, were someone to do the extensive work needed to put Brian's Thugs in charge of Robardin, for example, then this would probably not cause a change in outfitting policy)
Likewise, there are certain items previously sold at Robardin Rock which stopped being sold when the Nameless took over. However, these items were also being sold at one of the other high-end shipyards in the region - which have since been enhanced by the construction of Colonia Applied Research and the production of many additional high-end components for sale in the Colonia system - so their absence has not received as much public comment.

[1] Excluding the three "full stock" special shipyards in the Sol region, which are not subject to normal outfitting rules.

EDIT: see note in next post - appears to apply to any anarchy, not just independent ones

I'm a relative new arrival to Carcosa and I can say it was the best decision then I followed Phistos salespitch after I met him in the Witch Head. From the first "meeting" in Ratraii to now defending the shipyards against a Nebula bully (I know who you are) and everything in between, it was and is the most fun I had in Elite. I came with an ExploraLuga and had a lonely Viper in local storage from the time I unlocked the engineers. Now I have a fleet of ships for every occasion and the majority are build and engineered locally. It locks like The Rock will be my forever home. There is so much to do that Mr. Yong-Rui is charging me storage fees for the pack-hounds since months.

Come visit us at The Rock and see/try our fine ship selection, drop some exploration data, and if you want come pew-pew with us.

Just leave the KWS at the door.

Oh wow! That's awesome!

Technically, there are no Alliance ships. Just ships with Alliance in the name.
There are no ships locked to Alliance rank, but the three with Alliance in their name and the T-10 are only available from Alliance shipyards and the very few anarchies [1] which control a high-end shipyard.

(Of which Robardin appears to currently be the only anarchy shipyard good enough for the Challenger)

[1] Correction to earlier post: non-independent anarchies, where they exist and have a shipyard, can also stock off-superpower. There's a couple of Fed Anarchies selling the T-10.
