A6 vs A7 Power Plant in Python

Heat management. Basically buy the best A/B rated power plant that covers you power requirements. Even if it's a class or two below what you can fit.

Forgot about this, it is indeed a another important consideration, though not as important now your not forced into fuel scooping.

More important for a combat vessel need sustained fire than a trader.

You generally equip a A6 for weight saving, and a slighty better jump range. The C7 is much cheaper and produced more power.

Shield booster a great for maintaining cargo and getting decent shield strength.

Here's my current trade Python, the A3 shields are as strong a A5s with the boosters. A2 SCB isn't quite enough to bring them to full strength from one bar, but it's good enough.

I'm planning on upgrading to a python for trading soon. I was planning on using a fuel scoop to compensate for the operating costs. With the reduced fuel prices in 1.2 is a fuel scoop no longer necessary on a trader python?

Ok, so I just did a testrun on my 2-system trade route, where I jump back and forth, 2 jumps each way, one end is an outpost, to see what I could get.
With my 240t cargo setup I did 3.3M credits in 1 hour. That would be about 13.7k cr/t/hr. So not bad at all.

That s very good, I guess it depends how you fly the T9, obviously some hate it. I fly with FA OFF, and get the most out of my HOTAS and pedals. Max the distributor and set up voice attack to give me constant boost. I posted a video, 30 LY in 7 minutes launch to dock. I can do runs fast in this beast, although I'm pretty much a laid back trader.

Simple answer is 'no'.

However, even when fuel prices were high, I made more by not having a fuel scoop and using the slot for cargo space. That's really enough, but also, when scooping, you're a big fat target, which is bad.

Thank you, I was not aware that shield boosters were that effective. I guess it is time I replaced the chaff launcher and point defence :)

Is there a big difference by using FA or not? sorry, I just revealed my level of ignorance...
I mean: In FA off, I just seem to be careening around like an Irishman on St. Patrick's Day..
(granted: I often do that anyway, but still..)

The best use of FA I have found is when you're trying to run away. If you get interdicted or whatever, and you want to run, hit boost, then FA off. You glide at high speed rather than slow down sooner with FA on. That lets you SC out sooner because your FSD then has time to cool down rather than being delayed by constantly hitting boost. I actually learned this trick when in a T6/7.

Active defences are still really important for combat ships; they tend to have bigger power requirements for a start because of big guns shied gens. And active defences are much less power hungry.

Not so much for a trader, you just need to keep the shields up long enough the get the hell out of there, boosters are great for this.
