"Abandon your attempt to kill pirate", but how can I do that?

I have a mission to kill pirates, also had an assassination mission at the same time, so was slowboating in SC, dropping into USSes, and got a branch for the kill pirates mission.
Then I found the target of my assassination mission, got allied status with the faction, so decided to see what would happen if I tried to do the alternate mission.

Now I'm docked in the station specified in the updated mission briefing, but how do I find out what to do next?

The mission hasn't updated, there's nothing in the bulletin board or in contacts.

Is this a case of "wait for 1.3"? :-(

as easy as that! back in gamma i tried selecting abandon on a similar mission branch, and i lost the mission - thank you!
