Abandon your attempt to kill pirate

Similar experience with slave quest

i had a similar quest with slaves. Trader asked me to abandon and gave alternative turn in port. I went to the port landed and abandoned quest. All was lost. :( I think something must be bugged.

Has anyone experienced that with Slave acquisition quest?

I had this same issue as well with a 'kill the pirates' mission and with a 'get us silver' mission. Original mission disappears after receiving a transmission from a nearby ship

bummer

Yeah I had that same problems. It seems that whenever this clean guy shows up the mission is basically screwed up and you can't take the pirates out and have it count them. In the end I gave up an assumed it was all just a bug. I've just been jumping into random USSes and killing anyone with bounties on them - I actually made more money that way. Screw the buggy hunter missions.

I was at least able to go the platform the 'clean' merchant who trumped my "kill pirates" mission told me to go to. When I abandoned the original pirate hunt mission from that platform, it let me complete it. Now the pirates like me more, but the Federation is probably not too pleased.

I would like to know how to get rid of this piece of dung mission. I killed pirate after pirate till I had a bunch of bounties to collect but it kept telling me to kill 3 pirates. After 3 hours I was sick of this POS. I have zero desire to go talk to this moron "pirate" at Meredith. And the mission will not go away. AND it gave me negative rep with The Pilots Federation. Nice job. And it never would show up in the Bulletin Board on the station. This has got to be the most ignorant mission I've ever done in 20 years of gaming online. Wow. I'd say this was a joke but it's not funny. Hey here's a mission. Kill one, get credit. Go to kill second, get this "pirate" moron. Now it says I've killed none and won't give me credit for any kills I make after that. Get sick of it after hours and "abandon" the mission because it is the ONLY option. Yeah remind me next week to laugh. I'll just move on now and know better than to take any more Kill Pirate missions till they fix this trash. Fly safe and take care.

*EDIT* Thought I would add. I tried NAV points, no one showed up. Gave up on Nav points after about 15 minutes. I tried asteroid belts, no one showed up. I was interdicted about 7 or 8 times. NONE of those counted toward my mission. I tried about 12 or 15 USS's. ONE of those counted. ONE. Like I said before, after about 3 hours of this I gave up and went to bed.

Gotta say, I'm quite frustrated with this group of missions.

It's the kind of thing I want to do (Kill pirates) as a bounty hunter.

However, 3 times now I've taken a kill X pirates missions, and every time I've failed through lack of time or just abandoning it through sheer frustration.

flying around for a 2 hour session trying to find the correct targets and failing is not my idea of fun. Even worse is as mentioned above that when you get the buy off alternative mission, it resets your kill count!

Very frustrating!

Please can these missions be looked at FD?

Thanks.

The kill count resetting is indeed diabolical. Frontier need to fix it asap. It's been happening for long enough and it renders these missions impossible most of the time.

When you get this alternative mission, don't ever click "abandon", as you then abandon your original mission!
A more logical option would be "decline" or something similar.

This jackass mission will sit in my "transaction" window till I fall over dead I guess. Because I will NEVER go to Meredith and meet the hauler/pirate/whatever. Not going to happen. I've already taken enough hit on my rep with the Feds because of it. Until they fix the so called "hunt pirate" missions I will not do missions. I LOVE doing missions, just not these bunch of broken ones. I took a mission in a Eagle with a bounty of 8,347 credits to kill a pirate when I was in SOL. That is a low level area. BUT as soon as I come out of jump the pirate is in front of me. He has MASTER rating. In a Anaconda with plasma cannons. While I pushing the button to bring out my guns he blew me away with 2 shots before my guns could even come out. The time from coming out of jump to exploding was around 2 seconds. Maybe 3 at most. Anddddddd we are suppose to do these broke to hell mission? Uh no. Just no. I hope to god they get someone to write something besides broken missions soon. Or at minimum, fix all the broken ones we have. I have been a strong supporter of ED since last year. I have defended them in many forums, many times. But even I have my breaking point. I have been gaming 20 years now online. ED is my 49th beta I've tested. Yes I have seen far worse games. But I have never seen one with so many bugs on release. Hell the core of the entire game, the map is broken in a dozen ways. This makes me so sad. I love this game. I loved the original. I play this 8 hours a day. (I'm disabled so I really have nothing else to do and I enjoy gaming.) I intend to keep playing. I believe the core of the game is great. I enjoy playing most of the time. Until one of the ugly bugs of one kind or another jump up and bite me. Then it's not fun. I am keeping my hopes up and waiting to see what happens from here out. I have fun more than not so I will continue to play. If they do all the things they say, it will be a wonderful game. Fly safe and sleep well. :D

Not sure where to claim reward

I'm also having a problem with these missions.

I got a Kill traders in sector A mission from a station in sector B, but when I got to sector A one of the traders offered me the alternate version of the mission where I kill pirates in sector B instead. I did the alternate mission and now I'm not sure where to collect my reward! I've been to all the stations in both sectors and none of them gives me the option of claiming my money!

Anyone else had this problem, if so how did you solve it?

Cheers,
LoM

I've never been able to get a kill that counts at a Nav beacon, only at USS's and extraction sites. What I like to do is put throttle to 0 while in supercruise and watch my Nav screen, USS tend to pop up pretty frequently right by you so just line up with it and disengage.

These missions are pretty tedious and I wish FD would make them more straightforward. On the plus side you usually rack up a lot in bounties.

Attempted this type of mission in two different systems today just to see if was just me. Suffice to say same result each time, I will not be attempting a third mission. This is clearly broken as far as I'm concerned

I really hope that Frontier fixes the thing with the counter-reset. For me personally, this is the most annoying bug in the game right now.
If I have the choice, I'm not touching any USS and stick to the Nav-beacon or resource extraction sites, even though that might mean competing with other players for the kills or having yet another security ship fly into a single stray bullet of yours and decides to call the kill squad on you over a bounty of 200 credits.
But if the mission brings you to an anarchy system without nav beacon or anything else, you don't really have a choice, especially when four out of five USS turn out to be just space-loot/trash sites.

I'm not a game dev, but the problem doesn't seem like something deeply rooted in the game's mechanics, so I'd be very grateful if this bug could be fixed in 1.07 or 1.08.

+1
Resetting kill counters is really annoying.

please fix, as much as I would love to see lights on the dark side of planets, etc i do wish FD would fix the problems that allready exist

Not all Wanteds at Nav Buoys are Pirates. I think the pirates are the ones who scan you and say something about it when they do. Bounty hunters scan you too but will usually be clean and don't say anything until the scan is done. My guess is that other Wanteds are probably smugglers. Wanteds that start attacking other ships are probably pirates; sometimes NPC pirates will be clean (until they open fire).

There could be a bug though, here's my experience...
-
I had taken two bulletin missions, kill 4 pirates, retrieve 1 black-box.
-
I killed 2 pirates in the first USS I dropped into (checked transactions list 2/4 pirates killed). The second USS I drop into contained my black box.
-
Because I didn't want to be scanned whilst holding the black box I went back to the station to return it, mission complete. I undock to complete the Pirate hunting
-
the 3rd USS I drop into has 1 pirate, I kill him but didn't check my transactions list.
-
the 4th USS is a guy that wants to change my mission, I get the options back or abandon. I thought "back" would ignore his request as I didn't want to abandon the mission but this option remained and wouldn't go away.
I then notice under the pirate mission progress it now says killed 1/4 pirates....
-
Did my pirate kills reset when I docked? When I cashed in another mission? or when I interacted with the 3rd party? (I don't know when it happened) but I shouldn'#t have lost the two previous kills and It should be possible to ignore the 3rd party request but the fact it stays in your transaction list even after leaving the USS was very annoying/distracting.

there's at least one bug somewhere among that! :)

Its just a stupid feature that needs to be removed... If I choose to select a bounty mission from the bulletin board, for the faction that I wish to obtain reputation with, I should be able to go about my business without this constant interference from 'supposedly' enemy faction npc who offer a counter mission. Quite often I find it bugs the counter when I try to ignore the new mission offer and no matter what I kill I get no count added. Then I have to abandon all and lose rep.

I dont mind if I get inderdicted by enemy faction who would try to kill me when I choose the original mission - thats fine, but, please for the love of god get rid of this counter mission feature. It just wastes the players time when the whole thing bugs out as a result of it.

Either that or allow us the kill the npc who makes the counter offer... problem solved :)

I want to know how a ship, that interdicts then asks for you to drop cargo is NOT considered a pirate for these mission counters
