Engineers Aberrant Shield Pattern Analysis - Any tips?

I have spent around 10 hours in various places scanning ships, but I don't seem to get any of these for some reason. Inara says "Scanning combat ships". I have spent my time at stations and check points and combat zones but no luck with these at all. I got all my Classified Scan Databanks previously scanning civilian ships and didnt get any there either.

I will go try some USS's now I guess, but if anyone has any tips I would be greatful.

I got mine in higher populated systems just scanning in Sc, and the odd Combat zone...
Try Civil War and War States as well.

How many do you need?

Just 47 more! Annoyingly I had a good clear out just before the new engineers turned up... Typical.

I did try War and Civil War systems inside Combat zones without picking a side. I got plenty of other data. I will try scanning in supercruise, I haven't done much of that. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks a lot everyone. I will try Haz Rez and in LTT 305 if no luck locally. That could well be the issue, I haven't tried a Haz Rez, silly me.

I went to Haz Res in LTT 305 and first ship targetted gave me Aberrant data. I realise I can't expect them to drop like confetti, but at least I am in the right place now. Thanks again everyone. Also as Certacito said, Hi Res might well work too.

I just thought I would report back in the hopes confirmation saves someone else some time.

What are these things used for? I got mine simply by scanning ships I guess, and I would like to make use of them instead of discarding them.
