On the plus side, I sit in front of the computer a lot, so that will probably help.
On the negative side, I'm not too good at parallel parking, so it doesn't bode too well for docking.

I have scientific training in linguistics, psychology and education, so I could probably improve the education system in the Alliance enough for them to eventually conquer the Federation and Empire simply by having bigger brains than the citizens of those two so-called powers.
I'd hope that being a pilot would not be that helpful, since we'll be flying _in space_ in E4, while regular pilots usually only master atmospheric flight...Suppose the most obvious skill would be a pilot

Does anyone have anything that they do in real life that they think might be a useful advantage in playing Elite?

I surmise that you are... an internet security specialist who tracks down bad interweb users and identity theives and spanks them hard, but perhaps not always in an official capacity.

As a maintenance manager, I'm cool under pressure, have a very ordered mind and can manage large budgets. As an Elite pilot I would imagine I will be flying about screaming if people start firing at me, completely losing the plot and indeed my shirt on the trading elements. So no I can't see my ability to get leaking pipes fixed will help me in ED

just as an example,spaceshuttle pilots were nearly all military test pilots etc,pilots would be used to navigating on instruments,be used to the effects of g forces and there are lots more examples where those skills would be transferrable to space travel.

Planning on going for a walk? I wouldn't mind spacewalking. Not sure I would bring a knife to a gunfight, no. Certainly wouldn't attempt to rip open a ship with my bare hands, unless I was the Hulk, which I'm not, so...lazors. Possibly sharks will be involved. Space sharks. In a tornado. Spacesharknado w/lazors. WIN.
As for myself, the only thing i can think of that would be useful is that i do medieval re enactment so i am skilled at armed and unarmed combat so would be useful for piracy or bounty hunting,although if i met any one with a gun it wouldnt be much use
