Ability to change clock

I've been reading about people who want their elite clock to display their time instead of UTC, but I've only just gotten answers like 'it suits a game based in the universe' and 'you can't change it' so I'm just here requesting the ability to change the clock in the HUD between UTC and local. It's just kinda annoying having to press my start button on my keyboard to get the real time. The salt on the wound is that the clock is only an hour behind, so it's not even significant, it just adds 20% more brain power to reading the time when I'm already concentrated on handling my pips and guns.

Please Fdev! I just want to be able to shift my clock one hour forward! It's more annoying than trying to sleep on a warm summer midnight.

I say ditch Earth time all together.

Someone smarter than me should be able to come up with some kind of galactic time scale that isn't based on a single planets orbit of Sol.

It takes 20% of your brain power to add one hour to a time?

It's universal time for all players - easier to coordinate.
Look at it this way - it's a time in make-believe universe, not your time. And you can always turn the ship's clock off, using some other method of checking time.

That being said, the confusing part is that chat window displays local, system time, which in my case is different than game time.

For me it's just standard galactic time, which is 2 hours too early compared to my real clock, but I'm okay with that. I even like it. If you say "We meet up at [insert time] game time" everybody knows what is meant.

I had a quick play on Fallout 4 the other day. My pip-boy shows time that is not in my time zone. I want it changed to show real time in my time zone right now.

The thing is there is 'in game time' which is, er, in the game. And then there is 'real life time' which is not in the game. I look at my watch to see the time in both Fallout and Elite.

Almost every (other) mmo insists on a time somewhere in the USA, and resist any calls for local time. I see no reason for UK based games to do differently.

My desk clock is in UTC - but as a radio amateur that is second nature.

Honestly, people can accept flitting about in space at multiples of c but can't accept that their "space existence" requires a universal co-ordinated time standard.

What they should be complaining about is that messages in-game have local time-stamps, that is the crazy thing.

Not so much as "can't accept" but would find it more useful if it was local time. If I'm not playing in VR I can look at my watch but that's a bit inconvenient with the headset on. Still, it matches real time for me in winter. It's not hard to adjust an hour, just a small convenience.

To an extent, British time has more legitimacy.
For starters all time on the planet is based on GMT.
The anacronim suits it standing for galactic mean time as well.
When we, the human species, do get into space on more than a sporadic basis, a single time certainly within the solar system would make sense.
I suspect, across the galaxy, relativity and time dilation will play havoc with knowing what the time really is.
Even in the UK, as someone has already said, Elite's clock is only right half the time.
So, love it or hate it, Elite time is not your time.
Unless you are in VR, surely having another clock on your desk, or checking your phone, or..... Is all you need?
Save your 20% brain power for those pip settings.
