As a bonus-- commanders who are pirates, could even try playing the Distress Call trick to lure prey.

Also - you should get fined for making a false distress call if security shows up and there is nothing wrong with your ship.

I think this would actually be a good idea!
'Cmdr Signal Source' - who knows whats waiting for you in there?

And you have just told them exactly where you are, that you are out of fuel and can't run away.

Why is everyone obsessed with fuel?
Id like my signal source to be called "Come and have a go if you think your hard enough"
