About docking....

I always keep the green lights on my right side. Yes, American here. I drive on the right side of the road too.

Anyone else notice things like this? I imagine that UK players think I am upside down at mailslot stations.

It's not really a US vs UK thing. Green means starboard and red means port no matter where you go, including space.

I always pass through the airlock on the right (i.e. on the side with the green lamps) as well, since that's how the NPCs do it.

I stay on the green side, since the flight controller occasionally says to "follow the greens on your way out". I think I read this in the manual as well.

The tower controller tells you to follow the green on your way out, at least mine did. Maybe she was referring to chasing money, or biowaste.. hmm, I always thought she had an eye for me, especially with how she always tells me to watch my six, as if she's not doing that all the time anyhow.

Since I am a boat owner IRL, in nautical terms, "red right returning". Coming in from the Gulf or ocean you're keeping the red on your starboard side (else you're missing the channel most likely). It's another way to let you know you're upside down as well..

There is no upside down in space. And left/right is just relative to whatever frame of reference you're using at the moment. :p

Do you ever see NPC ships coming in 180 degrees out of rotation from each other? If you're using red, right, returning, you're oriented in the same way every time.

Space is no different than anywhere else, as everywhere uses a frame of reference. Besides, the docking computer seems to know the difference and it's not the brightest module in the hull if you get my FA Off drift. :)

It's from sea navigation - greens to starboard, red to port.

The correct way to enter the docking bay is on the right hand side, with the green lights on the right of the ship.

There's no "up" or "down" in space, but we do have left and right as we're wellwalla monkeys.

As the 100thmonkey says this comes from marine navigation where at night a green light is shown on the starboard (right) side of the ship and a red light on the port (left) side of the ship. This also true of harbour entrances and buoys. Aircraft also have green and red navigation lights.

The game AI has ships enter or leave on the green side of the slot and you'll notice that the green side of the slot on the outside is the red side of the slot on the inside. Personally I try to enter on the green side so that if anything is coming out then it will be on the other side of the slot to me. That said, I know where my pad is and will rotate the ship outside the station so that the pad is below my horizon once I have entered the station.

Not actually. According to international navigation rules, red markers will be on your starboard side when returning from sea. Red right returning. Just to clarify.

You are suppose to fly in on the Green Side.

You can do that on your left, right top, bottom front side and backwards if you use FA off without you realising it.
