Absense of melee weapons in game

Until you try to use them. IMO bladed weapons harm the immersion when the character body model doesn't allow to be cut and stabbed. It's bad enough with explosive weaponry but I can play with that.

This is an issue with the depiction of violence in general in this game.

Ironically, beating someone to death through extremely cut/stab resistant armor with a blade, or concussing them to death with an explosion, might be the most plausible of effects depicted within current constraints. Shockwaves and bludgeoning impacts can kill people through armor/obstructions...more focused attacks usually need to past through vitals or cause serious blood loss to kill.

I'm pretty sure that if humanity is still going in 1000 yrs time we'll still be hacking each other to death with sword, knives or whatever comes to hand.

is that why half the time I kill another player (and sometimes an NPC) on foot their body goes flying off into the distance

I imagine the killing blow punctured their suit and turned the air contained within into a tiny jet nozzle

At the most, a tiny jet nozzle, at 1 atmosphere pressure! That's...that's simply not going to push you around, unless of course you punctured the pressurized backpack where the gas is stored. There are some pretty simple equations to work it out, but it isn't going to even push you over let alone send you flying.

Even in Britain where don't have guns normally we don't walk round with swords.
I say that as someone who actually used one once.
suffice to say guy who grabbed decorative sword from wall beats drunk with broken glass and leave it at that.
As to the practicalities consider the distance between your shoulder and the ceiling then subtract three feet or so. Tell me then what you're thinking of is practical.

Although I haven't really played the game for a while now, my 6 year old PC still is OK for playing Elite, but not great, and is currently in storage and not being used at the moment as I don't have the space on my desk for it as well as my other machines right now I do still wonder why with Oddessy there aren't any melee weapons available for players?

What's wrong with having a Medieval broadsword type weapon, Roman Gladius, or close range dagger with a hilt? Does it really have to be long range plasma rifles and such all the time?

Where are the melee weapons in Elite: Dangerous? I think they are missing. Any thoughts?

This is one of the more adventurous suggestions- which I think the @mods should move over to the Suggestions section- I’ve seen, thus far.

Instead of just punching someone when out of ammo, wouldn’t it be nice to just whip out a hammer and start bashing remloks in?

Also, ship melee mods that do direct hull damage through shields
