Access To Bookmarks from Navigation Panel

I frequently want to set my destination to one of my bookmarks. To do this I open the galaxy map, navigate to the bookmarks tab, select the one I want and choose “Plot Route”. All of which takes me away from the main cockpit view - breaking “immersion” and putting my ship at risk since you can’t see or quickly react to your surroundings.

It would be nice if under the Navigation Panel there were two “pages” (1) Local : the current view of nearby stuff and (2) Bookmarks: a simple list of my bookmarks allowing me to choose either “view on Galaxy Map” or “plot route” when selecting one.

Whilst we’re there ... if any active Mission Destinations or Fines due could have an automatic “bookmark” in that list which goes once the mission is completed / fine is paid that would be great.

All of which would allow me to plan my routes from the comfort of my cockpit rather than loading a totally different UI.

How lazy can you possibly be over a few extra mouse clicks and UI changes when there are so many other important things to fix? What are the more important things??? I don't know, but there are, and yours is not one of them... that's all I know. Learn to play the game or leave!

Ha! Just preparing you for some constructive feedback.

Any suggestion for streamlining, I'm all for.

Ha ha! Yeh, I know ... it does sound nitpicky! I’m on PS4 so it’s not quite a “few mouse clicks”

[triangle] + [dpad-left] —> [R1] —> [R1] —> [dpad-down] x (as needed) —> [X] —> [X] —> [circle]

It’s not so much the key combo, though, more that to set the navigation in my ship I have to leave the cockpit view which kinda takes away from the piloting experience AND means I can’t do it quickly whilst keeping half an eye on my surroundings!

Or if you are in VR. I am just about to finally head into Explorer's Anchorage after weeks and month in the outer rim (DW2). I am using bookmarks and the Neutron Router (spansh.co.uk) heavily and program my course into the galaxy map by bookmarking every neutron star or waypoint on the list.

Not only do I have to do this all manually in the 2D game view, which is another topic (missing import feature) but I have to do exactly the same thing the original poster describes. But I have to do it with my HOTAS and not some mouse clicks. It costs me quite some time. It would be more convenient to simply select the next bookmark from the navigation pane instead of entering the Galaxy map (which also loads slowly in the center of the galaxy due to the high star count in the vicinity).

Please consider this upgrade to the panel. Thank you!

Would require a big reworking of the way the route plotter works though - currently it only works in the Galaxy Map.

But yes, it would be nice to have faster access to Bookmarks. As well as bookmark categories, more bookmarks, etc.

Why? I have been using VR for years in ED using both the HOTAS & Mouse for the galmap, ask over on the VR forums, someone could help you configure your settings.

@Op - Great idea that has been asked for multiple times. Personally I'd like to see a much more detailed (onboard) navigation panel. Take the forward panel popup (used for SRV/SLF) A huge amount of empty space on that panel. It could be used to access and plot routes to your local & squadron bookmarks, details about a targeted body/station (certain info that is normally obtained from the system map)

There is a whole host of info that could be accessed through the panel as opposed to opening the gal/sys map. Not suggesting making the maps redundant, just allow us access to frequently used actions and data from within the ships panels.

I am not saying that it does not work. I am saying that it is cumbersome to always have to enter galmap, and a bookmark panel on the navigation panel in the cockpit view would vastly reduce the time to select the next system.

Unbelivable that bookmarks are not available in navigation panel ..

on that note ...
We need bookmark grouping (folders, something ...) ... I've got a list of gozzillion bookmarks ... I want to be able to group them ...

Ability to tag and then filter by tag would work best for me.

Totally support this idea. Seems to me there’s no reason that “Bookmarks” couldn’t be one of the Nav Panel filter options.

I also support this! A way to solve the route planner, would be to include the route selection info in the bookmark, IE Shortest / Most Economical / etc.

It looks like bookmarks is getting major revamp in Odyssey, we are only in one system at the and can't fly our own ships but I will post a screenshot of the current build next time I am online.

Revamp, yes.
However, it now takes even more mouse clicks and mouse movement to select the desired Bookmark.
Needs a Priority or Favorites tab, and that needs to be able to be set to be active when you go into the Galaxy Map.

It does indeed, I had hopes they would fix most of the obvious problems, plenty of people were bringing them up, but alas we have what we have!
