Accidental wipe

So I was just setting up everything for a serious session which would have been my first since getting the game. I was planning to cash in some bounties and try some mining.

Whilst changing some graphics settings, I came out of the menu and selected wipe game data by accident. Now...I had my rift on and didn't exactly see what happened but when the confirmation screen came up there was no choice to cancel. It seemed to be locked on that screen and I had to force quit the game.

Loaded it back up straight away and got the "enter new commander name" prompt!

NOOOOO!

is it a bug? Perhaps..
did I lose much? not really, about 80k and a few upgrades to the sidewinder...
am I going to cry about it? Just a little bit...
am I gonna climb back in that sidewinder and start grinding my credits back? You bet I am!

So just a little warning, don't go anywhere near that erase game data option pilots!

I do think they should put that option in a separate menu of its own. I have nearly clicked on it several times when trying to get out of the options menu.

Contact support, I'm sure that will help you restore things... Or so one would like to believe.

I think a simple confirmation option might do the trick too, or like some other games handle it, having to type in your character name before a deletion can proceed.

Glad you didn't loose all that much, tinimark, i don't think you'd have been so upbeat about it, if this had happened to you a few month from now. ;)

Confirming your cmd name is perhaps a better way of preventing an accidental wipe, hopefully something implemented in the near future.

At the very least there should be a "Are you sure you want to ERASE YOUR DATA?" prompt for something as potentially damaging as this.

Yeh, I would have been a bit gutted if there had been more to lose. A confirmation by entering cmd name or password would be a great idea here. Not sure if it's a bug or not, as I said, I didn't see exactly what happened. Will certainly take more care about it in the future though.

At least I can have another fly around in the free eagle before flogging it on again.

What would be better would be to use your username/password again to wipe data, that way no x-wives/husbands due to elite divorce can go delete your save. :D

I'm so sacred of that button i actually only change graphics when im in the game as it disappears ingame. imagine deleting a game you're already in...

I have been trying to find a way to wipe my game data. I wanted to hit up that £10k reward (I've lost a few days now) i will remember this for next time (If there is a new reward for something)

There IS a confirmation pop up when you click clear save. However I think it would be much better to have to type your commander name or even delete to actually confirm, as is standard in other online games.
