I think they should do what Pokemon does. I forget exactly but they make you enter the Konami code or something before it even brings up the options to delete.
Do that and then require your password to your account to delete the save.
There are some people who enjoy starting over. But those people DO have mental illness so we can just ignore them.

It could help to have a text field as accept function like many asia mmos use.
To state your wish to delete your save you have to enter the commander name before the confirm button works.

FFXIV has a good option for this too: When you go to delete a character is starts a 30 second count down. You have a button for canceling the action, or another button that each time you press it removes 1 second from the count down.
