Wouldn’t it be so convenient to have a Mining SLF following. One could jump in with the abrasion blaster whizz round and knock off all the surface deposits. Switch to mothership and continue. Not only would it be a bit of fun, but it save the fire group proliferation we are ALL experiencing.

I have been suggesting the addition of a SLM (Ship Launched Miner) ever since we got SLF.
I think a nimble SLM would have been the perfect tool to place the mining charges, especially if your main ship is a less maneuverable T9 or Cutter for example.
This would have been great for Multicrew too.
I think this is a big missed opportunity. but perhaps FDev intend to add this later.
That would not be a fighter then.
The term Fighter implies a small craft designed for combat, not industry. I think it would be more like a driller if you will

Of course, not fighters, but what to call, I think it’s not a big problem, the main thing is that it should be loaded into the hangar for fighters and with the help of it you can drill an asteroid.

perhaps something like 1 fighter that uses the standard mining beam
one that uses the abrasion blaster

also to be fair the fighters, like the SRV's, are 4T deployable vehicles. I dont see why a mining fighter couldn't be given 2T of cargo space like the SRV has.
