Proposal Discussion add FPS dimension : example with Dust 514

Personally, I find the idea of "dying" in a game rather pointless and very immersion breaking. The player can never actually die. In single player I am booted back to some sort of loading screen and reload a save position. In E: D I am going to do something similar and carry on playing.

I am INVINCIBLE!

Depends how you look at it. If you look at it as just a game, I get where you're coming from. But I would hope that ED is so immersive that I often forget its just a mere game at times. Not being able to die or being invulnerable would be one way to break me from that immersive feeling and bring me out of my fantasy world with a bang :D

I think in soloplay its not really a problem, this death thing. But in multiplayer it does take on far more significance since simply reloading isn't possible. Personally I favor something like what Eve has where you're 'reborn' into a clone in a medical centre. Just because Eve did it first shouldn't be an issue with FD or its players. Its a good compromising mechanic that works very well.

Have to say when it comes to Death mechanics, the one proposed by Star Citizen excites me. My avatar visibly scarring and ageing until i can take no more and have to have my "offspring" carry on the legacy.

"Death" in Elite (or the art of incapacitation) I am hoping has been foreseen for when we are out of our ships. Am ok with ships saving us from death, that's technology helping us, but sooner or later we are not going to be 100% in them.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Agree. That's a novel way of meshing combat (FPS and space) and MMO mechanics.

Totally agree. I love the way SC is handling it. It makes your life in the game mean so much more. You also know from the day you create your character that he's mortal and will only be around for so long. Knowing that could subconsciously make you play the game in a much more cautions and civilized manner when stepping outside of the protection of your ship.

Its a really innovative and exciting way to handle character evolution
