Add people in control towers

When you arrive at a space station, it would look even cooler if there were people in the control tower moving around, just like there are trucks driving around.
Of course, it has no practical significance for the game, but still ...
For performance reasons, it could possibly be an option in the graphics setup.

As much as I would love to have it, I'm sure this is waaaay down on the list of things to do.
The ATC really need to be upgraded in many ways.

It would be so much more realistic to be able to disembark directly after landing without the need to put ship to the hangar.

Realistic?
realistic = representing things in a way that is accurate and true to life.

Maybe not quite exact what I meant...

Why do we need to wait until ship is put into hangar if we want to visit concourse? Seems like one more unnecessary instance.
Why do we look at the ships landing and taking off through concourse windows? It is so much better view from landing pad.

In the end all of this already works for Odyssey planet settlements.

So I would some station models to be changed increasing level of details (like OP asked for people in control towers) and add elevators to the corridor leading to control tower (a number based on size of landing pad, small - 1, medium - 2 and large - 4). And a single terminal to make certain tasks directly from landing pad instance, e.g. retrieve another ship of current pad size parked at this station.

Or why should we have to walk all the way from the landing pad to the concourse? People in the towers, elevators, a single terminal, the list goes on and on. Now multiply that by all the other players with big ideas. They will think their ideas are better and more important than yours and demand they are done first.
Now imagine you are a developer.

There are no FDev developers on this forum thread - no need to worry about them ;)

With the size of the tower and our distance from it I think the game could probably get away with an animated texture - sure you could break the illusion by using the camera suite to zoom right in, but I think for normal play it’d look pretty good.

That's a nice idea! Even in CZs on foot, players could control the turrets.

Safety I would assume. I would argue it's less realistic if people were just able to mil about on the open pad before it was sadly safely pulled under. At least in stations.

There are safety fences in place to not allow players move freely to dangerous areas. Even being rammed while on-foot player would be revived at the same station med bay. To start moving landing platform into hangar player would have to leave it as now it has to do before the pad with Apex shuttle is being pulled back.
Which particular dangers do you see?

The pads at most stations have a walkway attached (on the right and in front as you dock) which looks like it's supposed to move to connect up to your ship and allow direct transfer to and from the top of the pad to a corridor running along the pad between the top structures .

You could get a good view from that without needing to walk around the pad itself ... if you had a ship which actually joined to it, which most of them clearly aren't designed for.

'Realistically' you wouldn't just spawn in a med bay after being splattered by a moronic pilot, hit by debris, or blasted by station guns trying to shoot a loitering ship.
