Additional Character Slots

Hi,

It's been a while since I last played Elite, and want to get back into the swing of it again. Ideally I would like to do this with a fresh start without deleting my existing save, so I can build up the confidence to go on my main character again.

Are additional character slots a thing ? I wouldn't even be adverse to purchasing them from the store if need be, but I would really like to have the opportunity to make use of them

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Tier ;)

Just log into your main account, buy a Sidewinder and fly it until you are comfortable.

It would essentially be the same as starting another Commander just to get the hang of things again.

There are also more tutorials now you can access to practice.

Edit: I would also love another Commander on the same account, but Frontier just doesn't seem interested in doing it.

Buying and switching between accounts is cheap & trivial - on sale now for £5. Sure it would be nice if the switching was inside the launcher, but I can't see them being any cheaper.

I think most MMO's allow only one character per account, so no surprise here.

Its mostly the opposite from what I can see, it's rare an MMO doesn't allow multiple slots.

The issue really isn't the number of slots in game though, its that the game launcher doesn't allow for it and you are forced to have multiple Steam / Epic etc logins to be able to switch between, which in this day and age is a total nonsense.

Agreed, multiple cmdr's per account should totally be doable. Another reason not to plunk more money down on EDO.

Hey FDev, give the people (that would be us, you know the people with the $$$), what we want!

I got ED earlier this year on a steam sale for dirt cheap, and my alt is a freebie Epic acct.

Just to clarify as you post if quckly read could imply the opposite. - you can have multiple Frontier accounts without Steam or Epic.
Options->Log Out lets you logout the current account, then you can log in the new account.

As far as I'm aware there is no Frontier game launcher, with Steam you login via your Steam ID and the same method with Epic.

What I and I guess others would like to see would be to fire up our chose game launcher (I use Steam) and have the option to load whatever copy of ED I may have purchased, one CMDR per copy is fine given how low the price is for the base game.

A drop down list of purchased copies attached to my Steam ID, meaning I could buy as many as I like under the same Steam ID and not have to have multiple Stead ID's just to have multiple game characters.

I'd guess that your steam copy was purchased after February (? - I always forget the actual date!) last year, the Epic one is certainly new.

Prior to the 'new' steam login last year it still used the standard Frontier launcher, since the change the game has to be launched as a steam login.
(I have 3 steam accounts which were created before I realised that they all used the same Frontier launcher)

At a guess it's down to how much info you (could potentially) take up on the servers. The pokemon-esque mmo Temtem have said that's why they're not doing more than 1/account. Cause all the info on who you are/what you own has to be stored somewhere and since 90%+ is serverside that's all on Fdev to store, and servers take maintenance/money to upkeep. So rather than double, or even triple the amount of storage they need per person, for nothing, you gotta buy another copy, which considering the base game (which these days includes horizons) is £10 regular and currently on sale for £5, it's about 1/4 the price of any other full release anyway. And sure Odyssey is £30, iirc, but most DLC/Expantions are these days, if not more, so it's not like it's anything you wouldn't be expecting anyway (though obviously buying that for multiple accounts would probably have to wait for a sale).
