Actually, the rough signal range of the SRV is somewhere around 5km.
The radar on the other hand is indeed somewhere around 5m.
Having that access already I'll say: don't bet on it. If you
just want spaceship flying, you could be better off with ED as there's barely anything in SC, and I find the flying still worse than EDs apart of it's in-system travelling, that's way better than EDs stupid SC.
But since you bought it already, whatever, you'll see if it's doing the job until NMS or not : /

My vote: kinda fun if you come across what you need, not constantly but more than once per hour, otherwise, tedious as hell.
I Agree about Star Citizen. It isnt going to be what many expect. Plus the buy to play then RSI plainly stating that microtransactions will be there to offset not charging for expansions. I dont trust they wont stop selling ships, or make it so you can gain an advantage just by buying UEC through them. Maybe add a freemium type of deal with the subs.
The only thing they really have worked on really in the PU so far is FPS bull . They put in ships that Arena Commander had(Elite has a better one.) and some ships it didnt. Changed how some ships worked, but as far as spaceship piloting. Elite does it better.
Elite has also been released for a year an they consistantly show they are more worried about the backend. Which is a plus.
Hopefully next year they will work on a player driven market. The RNG is a thing that keeps my interest. I personally think the game would be ruined if you just got static things. It would become boring with groups camping those areas where the things needed most would drop. RNG prevents trolls from being trolls. However you will find more gankers in groups if they made things more static. Which for the time poor would be worse.
I am hoping instead of changing RNG they will allow for propecting limpets instead of making things static. Especially on the planets we can land on, as realistically those wouldnt always be static.
A planet with an atmosphere with static areas is less game breaking to me. Which isnt the scope of horizons. But planets with atmosphere would have areas like Earth where you can find more of the minerals in abundance and static. Less metorites, because atmosphere.
Another option is have the RNG metorites, but have deposits, maybe in caves below the surface. Coreing and adding more of a planet crust mining mechanic would add more content and be a little more fun. Or when we finally get multicrew ships allow the ship to fire a prospector limpet and provide air cover, to help prevent ganking.
This game has a lot to do as it is, and providing even more content on the planets would be cool. But as of now they are just putting down basic things to build off of later.
Repetition os not really the same as grinding. In the black they have changed how RNG works making getting minerals from asteroids a lot less tedious. More planetary stuff will come in time. Hopefully in the multiplayer ship patch later this year they will allow the planetary buggy and the ship to be able to work together to make the RNG and mineral collection less time consuming. One in the ship, one in the buggy. Both working in tandem to find the minerals they need. Which I think and hope thats the direction they are going.
Which will make the game a lot more fun. The Engineers is just the foundation for crafting. Once they start building on that foundation like they did for the base this year, next year a lot more will be happy with it me thinks.
The game could be a lot more tedious than it is. They use repetition yes, but to get good at anything repetition is needed. But I think we will find multicrew ships will start making this less tedious and time consuming. As time goes on like the rest of the game they will add more complexity.
