ADS and DSS needed any more?

No longer need for a ADS because it's fixed in every ship now.
But do need a i thinks it's the surface discover scanner but
Don't know if its called SDS... anyway you need it to probe planets.

Thanks, I was pretty sure the ADS was replaced with a new device, I thought the DSS was maybe replaced by the probes that map the planet surfaces?

The ADS is removed from the game and every ship has it's functionality built in automatically now. The DSS still remains as a module but its now only needed to launch probes, so if you aren't planning on probing anything then you won't need a DSS.

The DSS must be installed to be able to use probes. The ADS (and variants) are gone, and instead you get the pre-installed discovery scanner which does both the honking and FSS.

It is removed automatically, and you are re-imbursed.
