Advanced discovery scanner discovers more items than the system map shows

I ve noticed many times when exploring a new system that the advanced discovery scanner says that if finds more items than what i see when i open the system map afterwards. Latest one i got the message 13 new astronomical objects but only 3 stars and an asteroid belt existed in the system map. Anyone know what the case might be ??

Probably asteroid belts. IIRC they can count as multiple objects in that HUD message.

The ADS counts asteroid clusters, but the system map combines them into belts, each of which contains multiple clusters.

Yep, it's asteroids. So in this specific case, your system has 3 stars and 10 asteroid clusters.

You should find that in systems without asteroid belts, the scanner-count and the eyeballing-the-system-map-count will match.
