Adventurous, stalwart Commanders needed.

a huge Owl once landed on my helmet at like 3 in the morning in Iraq and I tried to wake up my battle buddy with my foot while staying still and the owl flew away and when I woke him up and told him what happened he called me a liar and told me not to wake him up just because I’m bored. Also I accidentally punched myself in the mouth yesterday and bled for a about 40 seconds.

At least I have evidence to back my claim up, if anyone wants it. ;)

You lost me. What does that mean? Is there a word missing after “my”? That’s where I get confused. To back my [blank] up. Are you trying to say that you want to back your rear end up on whoever wants your rear end? Is your evidence you actual rear end? Like someone says “prove it!” And you turn around and glance over your shoulder and say “see”. I’m sorry man I’m still confused.
Edit: No confused anymore. Your rear end was no where near the crime scene and I should be ashamed of such a ghastly accusation.

Let me know if you want me to PM you one of my main vanilla hard core Minecraft servers, aptly named Maelstrom, since I've made a machine in it to make it thunderstorm all the time.

That's getting a bit off topic here though in general.

The thing I said was no a means of passively saying you’re lying. You stated that you were going off topic. So I went way off topic. That true story that only the owl and I will ever know is true was my best attempt at going as far off topic as I possibly could. I even put a cherry on top. A bloody lip story that’s also true.

You lost me. What does that mean?

I don't know, man. I just spent like half an hour down under the bedrock trying to unveil the machine I made before deciding it wasn't worth it. The important bit of it was that no matter which part of it loaded first, as long as the whole of it loaded eventually, it would still function. Well, one of the important bits. It also needs to take a few minutes to update the status so it isn't spamming it more than it needs to.

But I digress.

Long story short: No worries; we're cool. :)

Progress for the sake of progress in the game seems rather hollow to me. It's all well and good working toward something and achieving personal goals, but some people seem to priorities it over their general enjoyment of the game.

For those of you that would rather just have a fun time playing the game for what it's worth and working your way up to this or that in the time between, or if indeed you find progress such as it is enjoyable, let yourselves be heard here.

There is enough conflict of interest and play styles here in the DD, in my opinion, as it is. Maybe we can forge a way to work together to enjoy the game for what it is and has to offer. Yes, a lofty goal perhaps, but some of the alternatives seem rather bleak to me.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers, and fly smartly, Commanders. o7

There’s a reason why my banner says “Agent of the Empire!” and not “Grinding to an Cutter, and then not having a clue what to do with it.”

Manipulating the BGS for the Empire, for fun and profit, between racing, exploring, and operating Stevenson’s Whirlwind Adventures, is why I play this game. That Cutter? It’ll come when it comes.

I'm, call me crazy (he, by the way), making a study on the Asp Scout, on my own.. including how FD uses it in the game, different loadouts I've seen (by FD), the internals layout of the ship and some other goodies I'll soon be able to publicate. This ship is unloved because it doesn't fit in the category of 'better ship for anything', but indeed it is a 'very good ship for everything'. I hope I'll get some traction for other commanders to it.

Here is one example of my notes:

This way I know where I'm shooting without having to target internals (found the different slot locations with images of targeted modules in every one of them), helps my find out how the ship could be internally (which gives me a bit more depth in the ship history, and maybe, one day, space legs..) and basically helps me finding the weakpoints of it (which I've already done).

I did the same for the cobra mk3, but I finally focused on this little one because of personal preference.

I’ve been doing something like similar to that, but for the Cobra Mk III. I’ve been building a Cobra in Minecraft, and filling in the interior details from what I can see in VR when I clip my head through various bulkheads. I’ll have to give the whole “target module” thing a try, so I can know what is where. Now, if I could just find the time to do it...

Just spent 2-3 hours exploring all corners of a system because I came across a Thargoid Sensor at a ship-wreck there, along with a few strangely coincidental events. There's probably no major mystery to it but I enjoyed trying to find that out. Today was a good day.

Play the adventure game that's in front of you, don't waste time worrying that it's not some other different game.

Sorry if not very clear, just woke up!

I leave the vertical positioning for you to discover!

One day I'll sit down with blender, get a ship model from hellion and build one of these..

What a beautiful thread. Must be the first one I ever bookmarked. Quite the welcome change to all the debates about the perceived shortcomings of the game, even though I am guilty of contributing to those as well.

While I may have my grumpy moments with the game - I feel that it doesn't use its full potential, and a lot of things could be done better without having to spend Star-Citizen'esque development effort, or creating an entirely different game - I still spent well over 600 hours with it. I guess that means I do like the game. Or I need to see a shrink. Or both.

I never exploited any of the "get rich quick" schemes myself. For me, that would be trying to win the game. And I think you lost it as soon as you start trying to win it. I do grind every now and then, but only when I feel like it. E.g. when I decide to do some mining today (RES or surface), I will take a look at what elements I'm missing, and will then look for a nearby system where I might find them. Or when I got interdicted and dealt justice to the perpetrator, I will spend the 1-2 minutes after the battle, to pick up what materials they left behind. Not just because I may need them one day, but also because I feel it's considerate to clean up after you.

But I won't go material or CR hunting just for the sake of it, when I don't feel like it. That engineering upgrade or new ship won't run away.

These days, I'm running errands for the Ancients of Mumu faction, to shift the BGS a little in their favour. It's a player faction, but I never contacted any of them (I'm not even sure they are still active). I just chose them because KLF.

But I feel like I could use a new challenge, and also that I may have to reconsider my current "lone wolf" play style. So I will certainly keep following this thread.

o7 Commanders!

Not sure if you're being fictitious or not, but I tend to agree with you in some ways.

Cheers.

Alas, I cannot give you more rep right now. Thank you for doing this!

edit: mental note, next time I’m at my home system, move shield generator from above the engines.

edit the second: next time I edit a post, make sure I hit the edit button, not reply

edit the third: had to fight off the temptation to go for a “rule of three” gag

Listening to Pink Floyd whilst reading this thread, following lyrics with an adjustment may seem appropriate

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just twelve thousand souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And how we found
The same old fears
Wish you were here

To me Elite is a hobby, and I just enjoy it....

Thanks, I corrected the wording. I don't always get along all that well with spellcheckers.

As much as I sometimes get salty about certain topics, I do just play the game as it were...I love the game in ways not easily communicated on a forum...words just dont do it enough justice.

Its not perfect by any means, but its far from broken and really, most the bugs and problems are fairly trivial...even if it doesnt feel trivial to those of us on the recieving end sometimes.

So fer what its worth, Im game...just lemme grab another cuppa tea, forgot the clocks went forward and woke up a lot later than usual so caffeine intake is running behind schedule by about two cup...I function better after being infused ^
