Advice for returning players 2025

Ooh, another ground combat tip (can you tell what I've mostly been doing? :D )

If you can, get a Dominator suit so you can have two main weapons (and a secondary). I use an Aphelion and an AR-50: the former strips the enemy shields while the latter provides good perforation performance (they don't like it up 'em). The secondary is a Zenith.

If you set your binds up well, a quick one--button press will swap between the two mains.

I have a fourth and fifth mouse buttons so, for example, I use mouse 4 under my thumb for main weapon toggle and mouse 5 under the thumb to whip out the secondary.

Make friends, especially ones with carriers. Until you get your own, talking through you mats storage needs could see them "buying" your stuff to "sell back" to you when needed. Part of the problem is that for some engineering, you need to acquire and store stuff until needed. Beats carrying it around with you.

Running Elite: Dangerous Market Connector (EDMC) while playing the game continually uploads information about stations, systems, markets, etc. to the network that underlies tools like Inara. It's a great way to contribute to the galactic community.

More info on EDDN, including some alternative tools that (I think) collect galaxy info for the benefit of everyone:

The Thargoid war is seemingly over (at the time of writing this post). Therefore don't invest too much in Anti Xeno and Thargoid Combat tech and equipment. As Colonisation is the new feature coming in 2025, a good idea is to probably focus on getting a big hauler ship and a lot of money to fund your colonisation efforts.

i'm back after about 5 years, I am double elite but only master in combat. I want to get it up to elite. Any ideas?
Thargoid Scouts are very easy to destroy, and they count as Elite ships (unless something changed in the meantime?), which give you most progress.

These days the closest place you'll find them are Pleiades, look for Non-Human Signal Sources Threat 3,4, 5 or 6 - they all have a chance to spawn (increasingly bigger) amount of Scouts. Be aware 4-6 can spawn also interceptors, which I would just run away from :)

Thargoid Scouts are the only alien vessels that can be damaged with regular weapons.

Do not use a Ship Launched Fighter pilot in combat if you are in any hurry as they take half the combat points.
Always try to pick higher ranked targets as you get more combat points that way, lower ranked targets provide fractions of a point.
Personally I just choose some grade of RES sight or Nav Beacon, it saves finding and keeping track of missions.
