African Animal Pack DLC

Even after the additions of the Fossa and Red River Hog, I still feel like the most represented area in the game (Africa) still has a lot of highly requested animals left to offer.

That being said how would you personally design an African Animal Pack?

Rules:
  • pick seven habitat animals and one exhibit animals
  • make sure they are African species

Let me get the ball rolling...

African Animal Pack:
  • Any Baboon species (either Hamadryas or Gelada)
  • Crested Porcupine
  • Dromedary
  • Honey Badger
  • Addax
  • Nile Crocodile (the obligatory "clone" animal, every pack has one)
  • African Crowned Crane (last pick was very tough)
  • Any Chameleon species (personally I don't care for the exhibit system, but this was the easiest pick by far)

Your pack is almost perfect to me. I would only replace the badger by the serval

Why must packs be limited to only eight species? There are too many good choices! You know what? I'm just gonna put down my African animal wishlist:

Mammals:
Primates:
  • Angolan Colobus
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Olive Baboon
  • Aye-Aye
  • Corquel's Sifaka
  • DeBrazza's Monkey
  • Vervet Monkey
  • Schmidt's Red-Tailed Guenon
  • Bush Baby
Cats:
  • Serval
  • African Leopard
  • African Golden Cat
  • Sand Cat
Canids:
  • Bat-Eared Fox
  • Black-Backed Jackal
Hoofstock:
  • Dromedary Camel
  • Giant Eland
  • Addax
  • Impala
  • Waterbuck
  • Masai Giraffe
  • Greater Kudu
  • Kirk's Dik Dik
  • Somali Wild Donkey
  • Ankole Cattle
Rodents:
  • African Crested Porcupine
Small Carnivores:
  • Honey Badger
  • Banded Mongoose
Misc:
  • Black Rhinoceros
  • Rock Hyrax

Reptiles:
Crocodilians:
  • Nile Crocodile
  • West African Dwarf Crocodile
Tortoises:
  • Radiated Tortoise
Snakes:
  • Egyptian Cobra
  • Black Mamba
Lizards:
  • Jackson's Chameleon
  • Parson's Chameleon

Birds:
Ground-Dwelling Birds:
  • Shoebill
  • Secretary Bird
  • Kori Bustard
  • African Crowned Crane
  • Guinea Fowl
Birds of Prey:
  • Griffon Vulture
  • Egyptian Vulture
Misc:
  • African Grey Parrot
There you go. Take your pick from my list. Let me know if I left anything out.

Well if we are doing a dream african animal pack mine would be close to something like this:

1. Black rhinoceros
2. Greater kudu
3. Secretary bird
4. Grey crowned crane
5. Mantled guereza
6. Nile crocodile
7. African crested porcupine
8. Either a WE with parrots or regular exhibit with any of the iconic missing reptiles like any cobra, Black mamba, gaboon viper, chameleons or rock python.

I leave animals like the dromedary, addax and hammadryas baboon for a desert theme pack.

This pack is obviously not realistic at all (from Frontier perspective) since it has no carnivore and it includes two birds but to me these are the species missing to make Africa somewhat complete for me.

  1. Guareza Colobus
  2. Crested Porcupine
  3. Sulcata Tortoise
  4. Bat-Eared Fox (caracal is the TV and the serval's chances are the radio star)
  5. Nile Crocodile
  6. Black Rhinoceros
  7. Kirk's Dikdik
  8. This one is a tough one, let's see... uh... how about weavers (white headed buffalo weaver (I like these guys), taveta weaver, village weaver)? I don't expect similar looking weavers to awe people but it wouls be interesting if we could have grass pieces as enrichment and the birds just build their nests to select spots of the aviary. The more birds you have, the more grass piles you will need to allow the birds to build nests. Newer grass piles could be unlocked theough research.

You could arguably make TWO african animal packs. The meta wishlist easily has 14 good African animals to choose from (two packs worth)
Yep 😄, my list number 2 would be:
9. Honey Badger
10. Gerenuk
11. Grey Crowned Crane
12. Black Rhino
13. Gelada
14. Aye-Aye
15. Nile Crodile
16. Any Exhibit

And there is still Missing the Addax, Kudu, Barbary Sheep, Rock Hyrax, diverse Monkeys, ...

Agree, two continents I could do this for and Africa's right up there with South America.

Let's See:

Crested Porcupine
Bat-Eared Fox (limiting myself to 1 canine)
Hamadryas Baboon
Dromedary
Honey Badger
Shoebill Stork
Secretary Bird
Exhibit: Jackson Chameleon

Pack two? Pack two!:

Black Backed Jackal
Aye Aye
Masia Giraffe
Black Rhino
African Civet
African Grey Crowned Crane
Addax
Exhibit: Panther Chameleon (if I can have a second chameleon that is, if not then the Black Mamba)

I could probably do a third, but I think this covers the high points.

It hurts my soul that this pack is probably not going to happen (since the continents have already been covered in the dlc's)

AND Africa already got a scenery DLC pack.

Agree, looking back, Africa should have absolutely been an animal pack not scenery. I've said that from the beginning. Love the four habitat animals we got, but there's just so much to cover. They've done a bit of that this past year but still.....

Side point, but not to get too off topic, SEA pack would have been great as a scenery pack, tightening up it's relatively weaker roster, and allowing the Tropics pack to be an Animal pack.

I think SEA was the best pack (these were the kind of animals I wanted from planet zoo, clouded leopards, binturong, babirusa, malayan tapir are all personal favorites and we got them in one pack) If I have to play that game Grasslands and Wetlands were a mishmash of animals. Both could have been just 4 animals each.

And personally I do not care for the African scenery pieces (I know that's controversial) but they are not pieces I use often, I think in hindsight I would have also preferred the Africa pack to be an animal pack (but for different reasons)
