After last update (3/5) Elite Dangerous Executable continues to run after exiting game

After last week's update to trailblazers, the elite dangerous executable is not stopping when the I close the game. It can't be killed from the task manager or with taskkill from command line and if I re-launch the launcher, the game won't start. I have noticed that after an hour or so it will eventually stop, otherwise if I want to get back in the game faster I need to reboot. I have 2 separate installs on this PC and it's happening with both. I did try a 'repair files' but it didn't help. I'd try a re-install but it's happening on a fairly fresh install also with a 2nd account I just added from Steam. Anything I can try to fix this?

Edit - Forgot to add - did try updating AMD graphics driver to latest

I'm experiencing this too after the update, though I can usually close the game down with task manager. Sometimes it will close itself but it takes some time which can be variable.

yep i tsk manager close all the time after i exit to main menu i dont bother waiting for it to complete what should be a simple task as it hangs there

Task manage close used to work -- now it doesn't. I did notice when I ran Horizon's once instead of Ody, it closed fairly quickly after exit. I'll see if that's actually a thing or coincidence.

that is odd..............
it always works for me as windows should kill a process if instructed unless a crash has happened to prevent that occurrence
i always quit to main menu first........

Found a workaround if it can't be killed from task manager -- go to the folder where the EliteDangerous64.exe file is - rename it to anything, the process will stop immediately, then rename it back. 🤷‍♂️
