Ahhh the Billionaire life... and maybe, a new rank system.

+1

I didn't have enough info when I made the post, but you all have to agree with this "If it was a mistake, why it can't be reversed?" :p

Actually I do have to agree. Regardless of how the credits came to be, code error, human error, cat taking a nap on a keyboard at FDEV, why has this been handled differently? Shouldn't they have just reset the affected accounts, no questions asked?

It's this kind of duplicity which makes people paranoid about the game and causes all sorts of "the sky is falling" reactions. I cannot fathom why FDEV would choose such this approach in an online game, just after the launch, in the spotlight. They're doing more harm than good - for the convenience of some 50 commanders (since this is just a matter of convenience, they wouldn't actually brake the game for those players) they risk alienating a large portion of their playerbase.

Hi FelBRax,

Just to clear things up for you, there were a few people (less than 50) that were accidentally given 5 billion credits by a process that was refunding credits people had lost.

It's only these accidental billionaires that have been given choice of keeping those credits, not anyone who's repeatedly used an exploit like you describe.

Its the principle bro.. One person having an unfair advantage is game is more than enough to raise eyebrows..

I'm deeply disappointed, angry and frustrated by this insane move by Frontier. So the company goes from bad to worse by empounding their mistake. Every time anyone sees anyone in a half decent ship at this stage questions will be asked.. Is this guy cheating?

How can we possibily have respect for Frontier or other players under these circumstances because what this also does is completely undermine the efforts of those who are playing it straight.

The game is broken for those that received the bogus credits, they'll be moving onto another game sooner or later.

Yeah maybe but right now I'm not feeling much desire to play the game anymore myself. However, I doubt its the case people will quit.. they'll continue on in a fashion finding ways to amuse themselves in game.

If Frontier wishes to offer me a separate account, with billions of credits I'll be happy to offer a demonstration of exactly what can be done at this stage.

Coz hey, it doesnt affect anyones game right?

Sorry Ian; I believe the accidental billionaires given this choice was/is a bad move. This imbalance will taint the game for many. I would forever feel I was a second class citizen...

I still can't for the life of me understand why Frontier would even give an option. They can obviously fix the problem correctly, i.e. restore to the correct amount, so why not just do it.

It doesn't bother me either way, but I don't see it as "ill gotten" since the 50 players didn't do anything wrong.

If this is the case, they got millions by accident and is not their fault.

If I have read Ian's post correctly, he is saying, said players would effectively have to be reset (as in, start from scratch)?

They have been playing for a good while and don't want to start again, it would be throwing away their invested time.

I'd say, let um be, its up to them.

Comments along these lines are revealing imo. 'I'm alright Jack!'.. Is it any wonder the world is in such a state. Where peoples pets enjoy a better standard of liviing than other human beings. Sometimes I wonder if I am living in the twilight zone.

I have this question that won't let me sleep: if my bank "by mistake" gives me 5 bilion euro can I keep them? please please! I promise I won't work all my life. Please?

That's the choice yes. As a condition of choosing to keep them they are no longer eligible for the competition.

The other choices were to be reversed to where they were and still be eligible, or to reset everything and be eligible.

Yes. If they kept the credits they were eliminated from the race to elite contest.

The way i read the post. they also had the choice to have their credits wiped but keep their assets, which means they could buy lots of anaconda's, then agree to a roll back, then sell the ships to get their money, and still be eligible for the competition.
Ok i know it also says they will check if they do this, but how foolproof is that.

When I noticed there was a problem, I stopped playing for a couple of days so as not to exploit bugs unintentionally or be tempted to exploit them on purpose. Those who did, well, good luck to them. We both made choices. In the real world, if this were real money, my view would be very different. In this game we are free to do what the game and it's creators allow. Besides, I'm sure the game will need billionaires in the future to gamble it all away. The game reflects real life :D

What's revealing is the amount of rage and jealousy humankind produces over some people's stupid virtual game credits, while said people didn't even do anything wrong.
But sure: Not everyone participating in every angry flashmob, however absurd and unjustified... that's the reason why humankind hasn't solved all of it's problems. Right.

I fail to see how some players having billions effects me? I dont worry about Bill Gates all night long. So what if they got lucky. Doesnt ruin my game. My crap piloting does that for me.

I also had noticed this exploit when I when my sold cargo but kept getting it returned to me. By the time I noticed, I had made 900,00 and immediately stopped since it is unfair and I wouldn't felt the sense of accomplishment if I would of bought my ASP this way.
