Horizons AI in EDH Its a joke now! Warning it s Rant!

What is your combat rank?
AI level now set to your combat rank +1 if you have Elite rank any Exploring or Trading. So I have expert combat rank, so most AI sent are expect, deadly or dangerous.

So for commanders who have pushed there combat rank up playing combat, you are now in trouble if you want to trade or explore.

I find new combat needs skill now, +1 FD.

Only Partially Correct.
And one of the Reasons why things are Viewed so Differently.

What AI you get Depends on your Combat Rank (which is assumed 1 Rank higher if your Trade or Explorer Rank is Higher than your Combat Rank)
AND on your Ship Value.

Thanks to this. The Combat Player with his Vulture which only Costs like 50 Million. Will Get much Weaker NPCs.
Than the Trading Anaconda which Costs around 200 Million.
As the Big Trading and Explorer Ships are much more Expensive in Average than what the Favorized Combat Ships Cost. The Combat Players currently get Weak NPCs while Traders and Explorer get Small Fry.

Funny but True. The Corvette which is an Favorized Combat Ship as well is Safe because NPCs dont get Corvettes that often and thus usually can only get an Anaconda.....

The AI is quite focused on cargo of any type and if you are flying a transport ship, you must be ready to run immediately. You have to keep an eye on the messages when you jump into a system, that is a prime point of interception. The way to break off that NPC is as soon as you get that "tasty cargo" transmission, jump to another system. I usually drop down to normal space, program my destination, wait till the NPC drops down, hit the FSD to spin up and boost away at the same time. You will lose them. Do not boost to escape unless you have the dirty drive mod (for speed) and shield/armor/shield booster mods (protection), if you do, you can outrun them until they fade out of scanner range. then you can spin the FSD and continue to you destination.

Avoid the escape "mini game" at all costs, all it does is cost you a slow FSD spin up. The instant you get interdicted, cut your throttle to zero, submit. This gives you a quick FSD spin up, boost while you program a new system jump and then jump. You will escape.

Some months ago I quit using any transports, they were too disadvantaged. I got tired of being the mouse so I saved the CR's and bought a Python, slowly a-classed it and haven't looked back. I started to look forward to interdictions back then. The Engineer's upgrade took me back a few steps, became the mouse again, but the Python could still run. I have slowly modded it, FSD, dirty drive, armor, shields, power plant, power distributor, MC's and most recently HD shield boosters. Now I'm able to dictate terms of engagement, run if I want or fight.

I do not carry cargo unless it is for a mission and now have jettisoned all the materials that I had obtained for the Engineers and only carry the ones I need for the mod I am working on. This adds more grind but when(?) they give cargo storage it will resolve the problem.

I recently lost the Python in a poorly managed encounter at an outpost but learned another lesson. Since then, I made the 9 mill CR loss back plus another 30 mill. I have started to go back into conflict zones and HIRES to bounty up and been successful. Also have gained 20% (@82% from deadly to combat Elite).

I am an old guy (62 and counting), so my reaction times ain't what they used to be. If I can do it anyone can.

Cargo carrying is seriously disadvantaged so change your game during the time FD figures out how to rebalance.

But the police response is pretty snappy now, which helps go some way towards compensating for the aggressive interdictions. Out of choice, I was low waking out of trouble with my shields shot out completely by some thermal weapon, and before I had reached the countdown to jump, law enforcement was attacking the aggressor.

I know it depends on what kind of system you are in (doesn't work in Anarchy), but elsewhere ... if you can just hold together for those few vital seconds, help comes faster now.

Do you guys have any bounties on you?

Bounty Hunters are out of control since 2.1.

In what way?
I have bounties on me... for stuff I did not do obviously :).
I get a bountyhunter on my tale once in a while.
I like that. The game should respond to my criminal status.
Nothing weird or out of the ordinary has happened so far.
No excessive bounty hunter activity or something like that..

Hah, I'm in trouble then (Deadly/Tycoon/Elite) and I haven't fired a shot in anger for months now (been out exploring, again).

Why is a a joke? it crushed you. That's no joke.

Come on Human surely you can out think the AI.

Mines, Hi-wake the answers are right there.

LOL, it is funny, Froniter just can't win sometimes. Back when it was 1.0 the forums were full of " AI is too easy " or " AI is a joke "

Frontier listened and made the AI harder.. now people are mad... my ship got blown up since the AI is harder. If you are not good at combat, and you see an AI has a rank of competent or higher... run... get out.

I like doing combat and I LOVE the AI, when I am fighting an "expert" they feel like some of the best players I have encountered. Some of the elite eagles have made moves I have not seen many player pull off, and yes there are times the AI has stomped me, and I had to jet out with 25% haul left or got blown up.

I always taught it was funny, that Dark Souls a hard game for sure.. and the game will straight up you off with the boss battles, but I haven't seen people go I just lost 50K souls, change the game... it is too hard.

Last time I saw a complaint about AI it was because it had become too easy... Now it's too hard and cheats again, without a patch?

Will the next ninja patch make the AI a joke again?

Eh, remember to take it with a grain of salt, when it comes to people labelling AI's 'cheating' and 'too hard' a lot of the times, that's how we react initially, but then we get better and it turns out it wasn't too hard anyway and didn't cheat.

Sometimes the AI just cheat like they catch up to you doing 100c+ in super cruise Or they magically catch up a fast ship like a Connie catching a small ship that can boost to 400+ I think the the AI needs less Engineer mods because of how long and grindy it is to get grade 5s.

Not fair they spawn with max mods...

But i tried the Mine trick, it works against smaller vessels and some how feels very satisfying.

Currently, as long as I still see threads like this I have zero interest even to attempt to play the game.

Funny enough that I even think of this as a game. It fails rather heavily in that context. The closest thing Elite is, is only a simulation. A simulation where some things were coded beautifully and amazing. But then there are other things that the coding is literally a complete absurd joke.

The programmers completely lost all of my appreciation when they were told to make interdiction gameplay more difficult. They did so by making it almost entirely impossible to win. Why have a mini game when you are being interdicted and you have programmed it so that most ships can not win?

Currently this game is designed right from the start of making the player suffer. Success is poorly rewarded. Failure is heavily penalized. The time it takes to succeed is very very slow. The time it takes to fail is incredibly fast. This turns this game into work, not fun.

The developers have decided that they would rather focus on their niche crowde than the masses. This is what we call a blunder in the MMO buisness. The reason being that those niche players will always be there because there are very few niches. But the general players that play casually
have just had their cereal tossed in their lap and told to "get gud". The people who are saying this are as much a problem as is cancer. Every single player that uses the term is being negative by reflection which is against the forum rules. The players that have made informative posts to help guide players
away from failure should totally be appreciated. In the end though. If they keep driving the casual player away. They will start to spread word that Elite is a toxic game, with toxic players. Niche games can be successful like that. Until someone else offers a better niche with out being toxic to play.

World of Warcraft though is an MMO that to this day still draws in millions and millions of players every time a new expansion comes out. A full price expansion. They learned that it is not the niche players that leads them into sales. It has been adaptation, change, improvement, and supporting the casual players to give them a means to get better with out being hard core. They still have their niches supported too. They have higher difficulty dungeons and raids. They have battle grounds and other pvp options as well.

Currently Elite's cash shop is incredibly slow to get new paint jobs. The moment a new ship comes out. There should be a whole slew of paint schemes. Not months or even a year later. *cough-Anaconda-cough* This is again something that other MMO's have already learned and grasped. Micro Transactions are a way that other game companies have turned failing games like Dungeons and Dragons online into successful and profitable games.

I am only just scratching the surface of problems that the developers of Elite have refused to look into or accept. But I would like you to consider a few details to help understand why it is understandable that Elite has had its arms tied behind its back. Frontier has not developed an actual mmo until Elite Dangerous. Elite Dangerous went live, with out wing support, with out an ability to work as a team. With bounty hunting completely riddled with holes because the police would swarm and if you did not get the kill shot you did not get the credit. For a game marketed as an MMO, it fell very short of what makes an MMO successful.

But it has gotten better. Which is what I keep hoping for. But the recent changes did not make it better. It made it worse. Until I hear improvements that are actual improvements. I'll just be one of those players that will keep waiting because I can. I won't spend a dollar to support the game in its current version. None of my other friends will even consider buying it.

I would ask what Braben thought regarding the gaming atmosphere and players becoming entirely toxic. But I would expect he would ignore it. Just like so many other posts here.

Got interdicted three times from star to planet in same system by three separate AI experts, by the last one I was toast in my ASP explorer, just turns me off the game to see this crap. If it aint fun it aint a game its a job.

I could live with the super AI ships shields recharging at a astronomical rate but the dead eye expert attack because you have some engineering crap in your hold is just plain stupid. [mad]

Bloomster. I feel your pain. I wrote this up for folks like you (and me when 2.1 hit). Maybe some of it will help you :)
