Holloway's base at Colonia is a more general xenobiology one. The most impressive bits of research it has done is establishing long-term artificial environments compatible with the survival of complex xenobiological space lifeforms - Caerulum Peduncle Pods are what they're currently configured for, allowing those creatures to survive in enclaves in systems very much unlike their native ones. They're possible - like the native umbrella molluscs - to communicate with to an extent, but we're not really at the stage where we can have a productive conversation as such.what is the xenocommunication reseach base out at Colonia doing?
I understood Thargoids were highly adaptable and adept at self modification of their biology to the point that natural evolution is meaningless... but i didn't think there was evidence of them directly incorporating other species traits.Thargoids are known for incorporating various biology and technology into themselves.
Maelstrom Caustic generators are just Aster Tree pods but dialed up to 11.
They are very good at this kind of thing. It is beyond reasonable to think they incorporated human or guardian tech into their probes/sensors
So... some speculations.
- (if i understand right) Xenobiological Prison Pod is now called the Thargoid Bio Storage Capsule. This rebadge is interesting, because the tone is very different. Either:
- Prison Pod inferred the purpose too much, so it was revised to pull back spoilers; or
- Prison Pod established a bias that these were Prison Cells for us, when they're actually something more... hospitable?
- The Thargoid Spires are an outcome of Thargoid occupation. When they've fully grown, are we going to see whole sectors like Cone Sector unlocked, with the entire region filled with these things as the Thargoid home sector
- with very obvious landing pads which we use to dismount and mess around with the spires... is this predicating that maybe there's potential for friendly interacting on the (maybe distant) horizon... and much like our own bases, opening fire on the various skimmers or the base, or ships coming and going, induces a hostile reaction? They very much feel like equivalents to large human surface ports right now.
Yeah, so i feel like this would fit right in alongside the logos of the Federation, Empire etc as a "logo" at least at a superpower level.I've also noticed the unusual relative hospitality of the upper Thargoid spires. Very convenient landing pads with very ostensive Thargoid symbols. It's like they want you to come in, but are reminding you that you are a guest in their territory.

I think it's possible that Palin will come up with something we'll have to put into those hybrid material containers to either sabotage the spires or force the Thargoids to abandon them. Could be the intended way to take back such systems.I've also noticed the unusual relative hospitality of the upper Thargoid spires. Very convenient landing pads with very ostensive Thargoid symbols. And the Spire Refinery Compound container looks...oddly human-sized and shaped. It's also interesting that we can safely store Spire Refinement Compound in our backpacks and gather it by hand; this fits the theme you noted in your thread of decreasing corrosiveness with further refinement. The container also is called a "hybrid material container" or something along those lines. Definitely uses the word "hybrid". There's also a sort of symbolism in the two branches coming together to form the "hybrid" in the center.

I did try sticking my leg into one of the geyser-vent mouth thingies but it didn't seem interested. The geysers are just water or some other non-caustic/harmful fluid. If it's a trap, it's incredibly slow to spring...
Well, I guess they could blow you off the platforms, if one walked past just as they vented, and one were in a long jump assist cooldown...The geysers are just water or some other non-caustic/harmful fluid.
That is true, the horizontal ones may be kind of like passive defenses meant to knock you off.Well, I guess they could blow you off the platforms, if one walked past just as they vented, and one were in a long jump assist cooldown...![]()
FWIW i got pretty close to the portals the Orthrus go in and out of... but it gets pretty sheer. I'm planning to maybe drop down from above on-foot since I'm confident you can get right on the ledge. Not expecting anything except a close- up of the Orthrus going through, but still. That close to an inty on foot would be cool. That is true, the horizontal ones may be kind of like passive defenses meant to knock you off.
I did consider trying to ride one of the vertical geysers to the next landing leaf over but then reconsidered the scale of it all. It's just so big!
That wasn't lost on me either. I've heard plenty of speculations that the Thargoids and Guardians may have once been the same species, though this doesn't quite line up with the Guardian history presented to us by the ingame Codex or Ram Tah's quest. But then, who knows how much of the information is just Club lies?Have you noticed that this:

Looks an awful lot like this:

Method of activation is quite similar as well...
Almost like Thargoid biotechnology is being hijacked by something.
More likely that Guardian AI needed someone to to attach to, after they wiped out their own creators. I think guardian AI and Thargoids would get along fine. That wasn't lost on me either.
