Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

Slow days here at Canonn, hence we need to come up with some new fake news : It's Alive
:D

Well probably not, but it gave me a good scare when I was checking out US123 "furthest away" from the bubble.
I was curious to see if there was anything different with this US-site.

To my surprise some of the growling seem to be much louder in parts near some of the larger Leviathans.
Sounds very much like an animal. It may very well be what we want to hear, but listen to the specific 'angry-growl' specifically at these timings:

PS, I to try give them names so I can identify them.
0:50 growl
2:09 angry-growl to 2:30
3:07 growl
4:08 growl
4:40 growl
5:20 growl
5:40 growl
6:00 angry-growl at 6:06 to 6:20
7:10 poltergeist sample?
8:10 angry-growl?
9:10 angry-growl?

Additionally, the audio peaked to a level where I experienced clipping & cutoff. I had to turn ED down to 50% volume, as well as chopping of another 30% during edit.
Please excuse the lengthy recording, I wanted to make sure I have some reference material to check if I have to do later comparisons.

Enjoy ... or rather, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

PPS; please ignore my fender bender on the conda. No Thargoids were hurt during the shoot.

If you play this backwards and speed it up a bit it sounds suspiciously like Stairway To Heaven! :p

Bits of it sound like the Predator

You can also measure relative height using a ship and SRV (or two ships).:
- Position SRV on top of whatever you want to measure the height of, and the ship at 'ground' level.
- Check the distance from ship to SRV (a)
- Fly directly up until distance to SRV reaches a minimum (b)
- Calculate the height ( = sqrrt(a^2 + b^2) + approx ship height)

FWIW, for measuring height, I usually use the external cam from the SRV, going straight up. It has a distance reading on the top right, don't know how precise that may be, but for me, it's precise enough to give an estimate.

OK, so I posted that in complete jest but I was bored at work so I downloaded the audio and actually tried reversing it. Then I started adjusting the speed and at 8x something kinda creepy happens about halfway through (worth listening to all of it tho to get your ears accustomed to all the different layers).

Anyone wants Unknown Probe? Gotta retire from all that alien stuff for a while, don't want UP to get wasted. I will be somewhere around Lembava/Diaguandri in 20 min.

That is something I asked myself: How would one measure distances? - Could be done with 2 SRV(CMDRs) that select each other as target and read the distance. Has this been tried? And does it work well? (I remember three guys doing something similar to measure the galaxy)

Why not just use the latitude and longitude coords? You should have plenty precision there, even on very large planets.

Thargoids massing on beige sand planet?

Can I has this?

Clever. Sometimes the most obvious stare us in the face. And perhaps you don't have to calculate distances even. Just have a couple of outer points of the structure that you record coordinates for, then check in a week if they've changed.

Something big has been spotted heading towards the bubble? I hear the rumblings, I feel the power by gravitational waves. Something big as a solar system. Is this the end of times?

I fear something. I do not know what it is, but it is coming this way.

I am now comparing screenshots of the galaxy to find if any of the big black dots are moving between frames. I am also trying to find if any systems are influenced by the massive gravity of something invisible moving towards the bubble.

I am listening into the ether. All I hear is "2... 4....... .... 2... 4..... ".

They are coming...

( Yes, I am still having https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-UkS3ecC9k as background music )

Speaking of precision, I heard that using a banana for scale yields the best results.
Sounds great!

I think we should recalibrate all our measurements into bananas. How many bananas did I fly today? Oh, a few billion... :D

Is that the European standard metric banana or the United States Imperial banana?
Banana Republic bananas (wear that for a size!).

Or... Chiquitas maybe?

Right now, I was studying fire resistance of unknown structures at Pleiades Sector LN-S B4-3 on planet C 3 at the coordinates -13.1651, -54.358 and Thargy came. Winked to me 2 times with blue lights, sucked the barnacle and went away.
3 times! (relog, private group PC). GL HF.

Btw, I measure distance using long range laser as a tag pointer.

Sorry but the accepted unit of measure is the London Bus.

' As long as 12 London buses'
'Weighing the same as five London buses'
'As tall as 6 London buses standing on top of each other'

I do all working out in half-eaten packs of Hobnobs - although there's a slight loss of precision (it's the crumbs) - I find the results more... satisfying.

But if I now have to convert into LBs, as you've said, how do I do that?

I see a possible conversion unit - the Smoot - e.g:

To convert n packs of half-eaten hobnobs into buses, if my Maths is right, I think it's:
-> if Smoot started eating them at his walking pace, how far would he have travelled upon finishing them all, then
-> how many buses you'd need for that trip, on a lazy Sunday.

It gets more difficult with time and weight conversions obviously.
