Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Apologies, brief side note,
Can anyone point me to the official Canonn view of the events of the 29/04/17. Is there an "official line"?

I am currently at the COL 173 SECTOR LY-Q D5-59 8 A GAMMA ruins site. It appears the map for GS34 is incorrect. It lists an obelisk group R which is not present at this site. Also, it doesn't list an obelisk group P which is present at this site.

The Generation Ship isn't necessarily stationary.

When you drop out of Super Cruise you're ship's speed and heading are automatically sync'd to the destination target. That's why, when you drop out at a starport or outpost, the destination target doesn't go speeding off away from you as it orbits around it's parent body. Everything in the galaxy is in constant motion. When you approach an object that appears to be stationary the apparent lack of movement is caused by you're own vessel moving at a very similar relative speed and trajectory.

The question I have is this: Is there any way to empirically test in-game if the ship is or isn't in motion? Perhaps dropping out somewhere nearby without obtaining a destination lock?

It shouldn't be stationary but I bet it is. The way to test this is to drop out at the ship and then target the main star and see if the distance is increasing. I'll be shocked if it changes in real time. It's possible that it may change when relogging into the instance (I believe that's what happens with stations and planets), but I'll be surprised if even that is the case.

Uhm.... just curious..

Does Hugeness mean "Canonn" as in "What is Canonn Interstellar Research Group's view on things" or does he mean "Canon" as in "The accepted lore and storyline" ?

Just that Hugeness asked for the Canonn view of events (i.e the player group Canonn Interstellar Research Group), and you (Tsar) have posted something from Drew (who isn't part of Canonn, iirc) , which I presume you take as "Canon", the accepted lore and storyline.

As I have always understood Canonn Interstellar Research Group is apolitical and comprised of people with a shared interest in applying a science-based approach to solving the ED's galactic mysteries. Members have all sorts of other affiliations. So there should be no "official" Canonn view on the 29th Premonition event (other than an interest in uncovering any mysteries involved)

Basically the Canonn will not shoot Salomè unless she carries a new unknown object that needs to be investigated. :p

Her earrings looks suspicious to me! :D

And why I've never made myself part of Canonn ;)

Ah yes, "Sciencing" the artefacts right out of government military cargoholds everywhere ;)

Anyone who has attempted to repeat Millikan's oil drop experiment understands the occasional need in science for the appropriate application of impulsive force, like a sledgehammer on the equipment! Or a little gentle persuasion of military convoys to donate certain experimental artefacts for investigation!

I wanted to at one point, but apparently I was doing it wrong.

What the Canonn should do, is to organize a mass UP honk brigade.

- Drop in to all instances, jettison UP and Honk. A few hundred commanders like that, would make things interesting.

Riz would be proud. :D

Ah, I can finally rep you again! That is a superb tactic!! I'm surprised JManis didn't think of it, actually has anyone seen him recently? What's that? He's gone off to survey some ammonia worlds before the weekend?? :D

Wish I could participate on this basis alone. I have two CRCR that I bought ages ago and don't have any use for [yesnod]

The Cannon is a player group, with a Council, so very much can have and "official" view on events - even where that view is apolitical.

It would surprise me a bit if they didn't run the event through the Pleiades. At least I hope they do. A few hyperdictions would spice it up as well(FD turn up the frequency on Saturday).

I will be late on Saturday, so I guess I just park in the Pleiades with a couple of UPs.

I have befriended Salomè, so I will see them coming. :)

I think you might have just decided my course of action...

But then again, anyone who knows what the UP does could likely destroy it before it could disable anyone.

Do we know what the max range of the effects are?

Perhaps a few trusty folk stationed at likely stars with UPs already deployed, plus some in CRCR for a mobile unit?

I remember it was investigated a while ago, can't remember the figure.
