Alien Colonial Marines better xeno's

Thanks for the ini file fix Stigbob!

I had heard about this but never looked up how to do it after the last uninstall of "Colon Marines"
Well played sir, you have just singlehandedly decided what I'm up to tonight.

I am up for some action vs more capable Xeno's but I wish there was a fix to edit out the coverbased shooting vs the corp soldiers.

And most surprisingly - from studio like Creative Assembly. They've created more Total War games than most other studios games in total :D They've never even been anywhere near the genre, and suddenly they produce pretty much the best Alien game.
Alien Vs Predator 2 has to be the best Alien game. It just oozes atmosphere. I wish some devs would reinvent it with Unreal 4.

It still sucks, just with better aliens. I'll be interested to read what you think of the xeno's after trying it.

Yep, the chain gun was the best ever put in an FPS you could pre-spin the barrels and eliminate spin up delay provided you only moved at walking pace. Really nice touch.

I actually prefer the original AvP game. Sure it looks horrible compared to the others but it has an atmosphere none of the others can match. Playing as the Alien in that game is amazing. You can go around knocking out all the lights till its pitch black, and if I remember right that was something they changed for all of the later games.

Welp, I had a go with Colon Marines.
I lasted about 3 hours total play time before the inevitable uninstall. But the Alien AI does seem more capable and menacing, so that's nice.

Sadly this game I feel is beyond further help and will never be as good as it could of been in my imagination. Shame as I really like the franchise. I guess that its the AvP games for now again for me :)

Still it was worth a shot, cheers Stigbob.

I find it difficult to fathom why they made such a flippin pigs ear of this game and franchise. It's astounding really utterly astounding.

I'm a proper big old fan of the alien stuff and even I think that's a wee bit OTT.

Their trailer was higher res than the initially released game, but did show gameplay stuff (even if it made no sense). Not a big deal for me as I think taking advertising literally is a mugs game. They also eventually patched it back up to a similar level of detail.

It's a shoddy game sure, but that's not exactly a capital crime. There are much worse movie franchise cash grabs out there.

Nothing was patched to anything even remotely similar to what we've seen in a supposedly 'gameplay' demos before release. It's not an exaggeration to say it was a completely different game.

Yes it is, the graphics which were the main comparative whinge improved later. I'm also firmly in the camp that never takes advertising overly seriously, so all those painstaking comparison video's struck me as being a bit mental and not understanding what they were looking at.

The thing I think was OTT in your post was "they deserve to burn in hell" I just don't get that angry about video games.

Nobody would get worked up over cinematic trailer. However, it was clearly presented to us as 'the game' how it will be on release. It wasn't. You should go and rewatch those demos, if you actually believe any of the patches fixed much. As to my expression it was obviously just an exaggeration...but realistically Randy could use a jolly good slappin on those lying lips of his.

That's fair enough, they killed a franchise I like which is a move. I just think eternal torment is a bit extreme.

Amazing that a single extra letter in an .ini file on disk did all this. How did they not spot this after 5 years? Did they do any testing on that game. Randy Pitchford should be really embarrased by this but I doubt he even cares now.

People misunderstand the situation. The typo was only responsible for some AI issues. And AI issues is only one of many problems this game had. So no, that's not everything that caused the failure. It's hard to answer what was. Neglect and lack of respect for the franchise is the main reason I suppose.

I think the bug in question just affected the Alien AI, I watched another video on this the other day that explained what it did and didn't fix but it makes you wonder what else is wrong with it, and whether it could be fixed so easily.

I wonder if there will ever be a Borderlands 3 or are they done?

Yeah I also liked covenant, David was brilliant in it best film baddie in ages. I enjoyed prometheus also if I'm honest aside from annoying plot holes it was an interesting movie.

Quite interested how the the final film will pan out.

The game has full 4 player campaign coop, right? I'm strongly leaning towards giving it a playthrough. If the Xeno fix plus some mods and patches can bring it up from "broken/terrible" all the way up to "mediocre by-the-numbers shooter" I'll probably be able to bridge the rest of that gap with franchise nostalgia and coop play.
