Alien Isolation VR mod released

I was pretty disappointed, that the producers of Alien Isolation even did commercial advertising with VR and then not even considered to include a VR function into the game.
At least they could have delivered a VR patch at some point.

And Mad Mike is right. I used a few tricks to play it in VR and i can only say, that moving in Alien Isolation in VR, is a motion sickness adventure of another magnitude...
A good VR game has a motion system, that mimics walking and running and independent head movement.

We can only hope that the mod improves over time. The mods creator does have plans to do that as I understand. However Alien Isolation, even as it released holds up as one of the best VR experiences I ever had, I can't wait to give this mod a try!

Well after a quick play, it's pretty flawless.

Only issue I've come across is the black screen cut scenes which obviously don't impact on the gameplay. FOV still need a bit of work but maybe just personal to me.

Graphics are amongst the best I've seen in VR

If anyone's tried it in Vorpx, this is MUCH better

Sorry never played it on DK2 and no, it's not retail - it's a file created by a fan

Sorry, I was unclear. I was wondering if it's hooking into the native VR API that was in A:I upon retail release (albeit disguised in the config file). If so, then it's going to be a very slick experience, as it kicked rear-end on DK2; it was genuinely harrowing!

Looking forward to trying it later on.

It does pretty much that. It enables the old DK2 support for CV1 with all the bells and whistles of the newer runtime, looks really good and plays very well. It does suffer from the old hang ups such as computer screens being to close and movement being locked to head rotation. I understand that the mods creator is working on those issues and more...

OK yes, I generally lived with those issues on the basis that I was in a state of near constant dread ;)

Movement isn't locked to head rotation. You can move normally using the sticks on the Xbox controller. Only look up/down is locked to head tracking

Oh my god, so envious Vive owner right now.

I tried it on DK2 and experienced no motion sickness whatsoever. Claustrophobia and constant dread on the other hand... oh Mama (or Mother ;-) )

Does it not work with revive?

The author states he hopes to add Vive support soon™ so I will wait for that. I'm not proficient with Revive tbh. I only have freebies on Oculus Store back from the time I had the DK2 borrowed which coincided with the CV1 release. IDK if that mod can run on Revive, and I have Alien on Steam. Especially when it says the only thing you have to do is drop the injector to the game folder. I can wait, just bought X:R VR ;-)

Movement is locked to head rotation - you can see this for yourself by simply walking forward in game and moving your head side to side, you will walk in the direction you look. The original VR implimentation was the same also, hopefully it's something the mod author can fix.

Nope tried it again and direction is definitely only dictated by the controller stick for me

The only thing head tracking does is look up and down and for aiming

Dude, you are wrong. This game does not have a decoupled camera and never has, the direction your head points is the direction you move. Just look down at your body and rotate your head, you will see your body rotate along with your head movements.

Directly from the mods author:

I_wish_I_was_a_robot

I can't try this until tomorrow. Are head direction and forward movement locked together like the DK2 version or decoupled? Is it possible to make a toggle?

Nibre_

For now they're coupled together like the DK2 version

Regardless of whether head is decoupled from walking, it could be worse, it could be teleporting like you do with robo recall - that kills the game for me :-(

OP, my thanks. Bought AI last year, and only because it was expected that you'd be able to play it in VR. So it's languished in my Steam folder ever since.
Just fired it up, looks spot on.

If done well in the right game i think teleport is fine. Works really well in roborecall imo. That said there is a free running mod for it if u like
