Alien Isolation VR mod released

I just tried this.

its far from perfect, it is clear the game was never properly made for VR and without the source code I guess the chap making the mod has a tough job. its hard on vr legs.

but.............

its frikken alien in VR again, and I have not had that since 2014!!! it is utterly terrifying. I bought this game at launch inc season pass and still not seen beyond crew expendible yet, but it is so so good. walking round the nostramo being hunted by THE alien.

the assets are all from the film. its a damn shame its not official, they are close to the ultimate VR game imo, but that said, if you have a rift (or possibly vive with revive - vive version coming soon - ) and if you own alien, you simply must try it.

some (v important) tips

Unless you are an experienced VR user, Take it easy, possibly 15mins tops then have a breather, because as I said, made for VR games that you may be used to using now do not push your vr legs this hard. it reminds me of my very early DK2 days. if you can, use a swivel chair and use that to turn when possible and NOT your control stick. pads are better for strafing and use your body to turn when possible.

Finally, a post in this subforum which makes me glad I haven't taken the VR plunge yet rather than tempting me to do it :D

Well personally I consider AI with this mod to be amongst the best VR experiences out there - in fact up there with Lone Echo

Maybe I'm lucky that I don't suffer with VR sickness at all

it may be short lived.... Nibre is hard at work trying to fix the issues in AI, without the source it will be harder than doom 3, but if he reckons he has a good shot at doing it then who am i to doubt him?..... and even as it is its worth the experience.

Haha, I guess I'll have to! Watched a VR walkthrough back on the DK2, seems too good to miss!

be careful what version you buy if you do not have it already. not all versions come with crew expendible. iirc it was a pre-order bonus however i HAVE seen people selling it with it still recently.... so i guess not such a pre-order bonus after all ;) (and rightly so. it would be crazy for only the few to experience such amazing content)

You can buy Crew Expendable on steam for 3,99€. Just realised that I don't have it and now my OCD is kicking in :p I have all the rest including Last Survivor tho.

Sick! I installed A:I when I first got my Rift because I read it had a 'hidden' VR mode. Except for extended mode being removed and all...

Finally found some time this evening to test this out some more with the latest version of the mod and it's truly incredible. Easily the best VR experience I've had to date.

i think someone is missing a trick here - most likely facebook / oculus as they are the ones putting most money into vr development -.... imo somone needs to approach sega with a wedge of cash to make an official vr mode, complete with full motion controller support.

the assets are all there, the ui needs a tweak.

The fact is, given access to the source code (which sega surely have) its a doable task, just look at doom3 BFG fan made mod. Sadly without the source code i think Nibre will be limited to what he can do to AI.

I am not complaining with what we have however and am happy to have access to AI again.

I suppose some people may appreciate some extra features like Touch, comfort mode locomotion etc, however it's perfectly fine as it is for me.

The outdoor level where you go into the alien ship is breathtaking

i have not got past the pre-order DLC yet so have not left the nostramo ;)

btw i was not complaining.. nibre is a legend for getting AI working like it is.

As a warning, that part can also lead to an unrecoverable issue where by the camera becomes detached from the player model - Basically when you try to climb onto the Space Jockey platform. The work around was to climb only at the raised "hump like" part of the platform.

Thanks for the heads-up. I passed that part last night without issue (second playthrough but first time in VR - except for a brief try with Vorpx)

Best VR game so far for me but sad that's it's not even official!

Is it known/reported on Github? If not, could you report it alongside the needed details?
