Alien Mystery is largely just reading the news

The completely scripted events a few months back in the formidine rift was the final nail in the coffin. We were told that something was out there but just hadnt been found...turned out to be a dev flying a standard freighter and carrying yet another cryptic clue that became boring a long time ago.
Is that, what Drew Wagar talked about many months ago?

Its jarring to need something outside the game to complete the game. Couldn't they have included it as a ship module or HUD feature for us guys who bought into it thinking that it might be a self contained world. I respect that its their game and their world so do as though wilt, I'd just enjoy it if i didnt have to go outside of the game to complete quests with Zero indication from the developer that I should go outside the game, Im a historian at heart not any sort of technician so my mind wouldn't have though to break down the soundwaves into a pictoral pattern and see what we have from there. I suppose you could say Ram Tah's message was the breadcrumb regarding the alien ruins quest, however; when it becomes glaringly obvious that the tactic of withholding information in order that the developers can keep up with the community's progress to stop the community getting ahead of the developer (as happened with the discovery of the Ancient Ruins) is being implemented, they should tell us so we are not spending our game time scratching ourselves on some dark quiet crash (system) prone planet waiting for data patterns, uneccesarily

Just wanted to say that I completely agree with OP and I have been saying the same kind of thing for a long time, in that for me the plot in elite is one that I read.. not actually play. And even that I find it quite hard to find somewhere to read it, no way am I going to read those massive threads on current plot developments.

Following his recent appeal for data from the Synuefe ruins, engineer Ram Tah has released a statement:

"Using the data contributed by the galactic community, I have succeeded in accessing the monolith network. But although I have detected a number of further Guardian sites – which is very exciting – I have not been able to divine their precise locations. All I have been able to do is narrow the field to a handful of systems – specifically Synuefe ZL-J d10-119, Synuefe XO-P c22-17, IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101 and IC 2391 Sector GW-V b2-4."

"Locating these sites is of central importance to our ongoing research, which is why I am encouraging the galactic community to explore these systems. Together, we can further our understanding of this fascinating race."

Lololol :D

I'm really hoping big changes to come with 3.0. They already said they will change the season model, I expect this to come with a change of approach with mission design and narrative. Sometimes it feels like these sort of things are done on a napkin during a lunch break, as if they don't have the time to put more thought on them. I hope this is because they are busy making 3.0 a game changer.
