So, I literally just came back to elite today after a long hiatus. I only played a little on xbox back in the day, and am currently on PC. Did a bunch of starter courier missions in the starter zone, saved up 350k, bought my cobra mk III....and then just took off to do some light exploring. Was in the Wolfsegen system to i decided to drop in on wolfsegen 1 and just cruise around in my SRV to set up keybinds on my PC controller for it. So im cruisin around wolfsegen 1, lookin for some altitude to goof off with......and i run across these two green flying...probes i guess? they looked like little 3 foot wide mini ships basically, with green lights....and there was something green and pulsing in the background. Like an idiot (as i had just set up new keybinds on the controller), i went to ebrake and instead shot one.....and in about 10 sec they completely wasted my SRV. Currently above the planet in my ship again, hunting for them again. Any idea what these are????

Just returned from a passenger mission out in the black and thought I'd check into this issue but noted that this is in that "restricted to new players" area so I'm unable to check into it for you.
Guess I'll just have to ask the question: on your scanner/radar in your SRV, did you notice a red box around the area you were entering? Might have been a restricted area, i.e., some stuff dropped and now guarded by sentries as suggested by others. I've seen those at random here and there, might have been what you encountered.
