All these mining updates and patches. So combat updates when?

I wonder if, throughout the years of incompetent changes, they simply gave up upon trying to appease (or understand) the community. So much time and effort wasted on changes that didn't amount to a lot of positives. I hope this is not the case, however. This attitude would be an immediate death sentence to Odyssey.

As for buffing combat payouts, you really can't go wrong any further, with such a f-ed economy.
Well, if we consider just FCs and their 18+ month delay, their seemingly significant change and down scale in mechanics, and then cast our minds back to their Beta release and how just bizarely unfit for purpose they were balance wise, I think that underlines the management and design issues that seemingly have plagued FD for 4-5yrs now...

$22 Million for 30 ships isn't bad...

Let me know how long it ends up taking you to kill those 30 ships

There seems to be little desire (or ability) for FD to move on and deepen the core game. And it seems "New Era" underlines this by them now opening up on a whole new Eastern Front with FPS pewpew instead of improving the core game's combat depth.
I absolutely agree. Instead of adding more shallow content, I personally, would much rather see them add some solid PvP content that doesn't have an absurd level of entry like it currently does by heavily expanding CQC and bringing it into the main game. Expand combat by adding a wide variation of difficulty to missions as well as adding some kind of assassination contracts that require multiple missions to track down the primary target. Expand exploration by adding more Raxxla style rumors for players to seek out.

I just want to see every aspect of the game expanded on and deepened instead of them just adding more and more content. Otherwise, Frontier is just gonna get the same trend of players getting back on to check out the new content, then getting bored within a couple months once they realize there's little else to keep their interest.

Well, had CQC been an investment of development time into the core game to add fighter based combat scenarios you could holo-me into, then by now that tool could have been used to bring some depth and variety not only to Community Goals, missions and indeed the Thargoid invasion etc, but if the game then orchestrated PvP scenarios that tool could then be used for specific Powerplay outcomes etc. ie: With 3-4 CMDRs from opposing Powers playing combat scenarios (attack/defend/escort) against each other to affect the outcome of Powerplay...

That would be awesome.
I would love to see them make an option for CQC to use our own ships and suspend rebuys. As well as an optionalnG3 engineering, max. I just want something that all players could easily jump into and enjoy. The level for entry, currently, is just way too high and intimidating for most players.

This would happen organically anyway if it was Open, or the portion of Powerplay we have now was Open- it does not need to be forced.
The game needs to orchestrate it and/or offer the mechanics to provide it and make it meaningful. Albeit it with solid enough mechanics that lead to this outcome, or dedicated combat scenarios that offer it.

If we force Powerplay to be OPEN only now, it would make a small step towards more meaningful PvP combat, but the gameplay/scenarios are still too shallow and clunky (IMHO) to make it truly engaging and anything akin to what games 25+yrs ago were offering as regards depth.

There needs to be layers of complementary mechanics that lead to logical meaningfuly PvP combat. FD seem to get stuck after one year, and nothing has really progressed since... And in some areas it's got worse. eg: PvP (& PvE) combat balance.

But thats the thing: being in Open, having everyone fortify in the same direction, prep, UM etc then becomes meaningful automatically, because it can all be disrupted opportunistically and totally under the players / group of players control. You have the goals, its just having the ability to mess them up which is currently missing.

Suddenly fortifying is not as easy, UM can be fought off, FCs become vulnerable, scouting essential....its all sat there but is unable to flourish.

I agree, but the game needs to orchestrate it and offer more engaging, deeper scenarios/gameplay. Little/nothing has progressed combat in like 5yrs...

lol... I'm good I tell ya

Ok, maybe a bit longer, I didn't count and didn't really care but it didn't seem like long at all.

NPC combat has not flourished- done right Open makes players NPCs and sidesteps problems of NPC persistence, lethality and capability.

All I want is a DETAINMENT CONTROLLER LIMPET MODULE,
When a WANTED enemy NPC / Player have NO shields and 10% Hull, this limpet will attatch it self to the cockpit, breaking it and yanking the Pilot from within the ship and deliver it to the Ship that launched it as the enemy vessel explodes.
This would be a great way to increase the pay outs to BOUNTY HUNTING npc & players alike.
This imo would create a more immersive bounty hunting atmosphere. The best part is that we already have the assets in-game already to do. Just need to add the limpet breaking the canopy and yankiing the pilot out.
Which wouldnt be too difficult to add.

What to you think?

Maybe with base building in the future you can mount the head/helmets of certain Cmdr's in your base LOL
Come on. gotta admit that would be pretty immersive and badass.

Until you get yanked out of your cockpit for a speeding fine and taken via fleet carrier to the outer edge of the galaxy where you're dumped on some lifeless rock.

Edit: I wholeheartedly support this suggestion for greater immersion

Combat is trash in Elite and has been for a couple of years now.
Believe it or not, there's people that play this game that would rather shoot at other ships instead of fudging ROCKS! You can nerf mining in a couple of weeks but you can't increase the payouts of combat missions, bounties and bonds? This is bullspit! I'm so sick and tired of MINING!!!

Combat is great! Everything else is a bit out of whack though.
