By my reading, this means the galaxy is far bigger than the old maps would suggest - right?

I'm am an explorer at heart, so for me bigger is definately better.

of course you can now go up and down from the galactic plan, that wasnt possible in frontier(there was some depth yes but it was negligable, which made a 2D map possible). Now it's really hundreds of light years thick. about 1000LY with Sol somewhat in the middle.

Ok cool just that every one just keeps saying Federation or Empire thanks for all the replies so maybe Han Solo is part of the Alliance worlds or non-allied systems .

Yup, I've tried to hold up the torch of the Alliance, but the Federation and Empire folks are entirely too noisy. Also, the Alliance is humble and productive. We don't make noise just because we can.

Yes, there are some places out there inhabited by... something. it was just not worth mentioning. Maybe we could set up a trade route supplying torches though. The speciality market is always exciting.
