Allow Multiple SLF Deployments

I normally have one on the go (training up) and once they get to Elite I start looking for another harmless one with a suitable backstory to train up. If I'm happy with their voice I'll let the Elite one go & carry on with the new one.

Yeap, that's doable lately after they fixed the slf crew voice bug.
I was really miffed back then when, after finding a crew with a nice British accent (and who called me Sir) while looking good enough so i dont get scared to death by looking at her picture, only to find out that at next relog her accent and voice lines reverted to the bog standard US accent.

I don't mean a bug (maybe I was out exploring while that happened, or it was live only or something), I mean their general attitude. Some are less annoying than others. I remember being frustrated by a similar change to station controller voices though (and flipping a system to re-roll the dice).

I think it was fixed sometimes during Odyssey
 
If they weren't worthless that would be a worthwhile endeavor. It's like getting a pet that costs money all the time but does nothing for you. You might get attached to the pet but if you knew going in what the pet was going to bring, you'd probably not get one.
I never quite thought of them as worthless even back when I used to hire them for some journey then fire them arrival before getting paid to not have to pay their cut.

Then when I switched to training one up I still didn’t think of them as worthless but to be honest I was still thinking of the as decoys rather than weapons, but I was using the plasma armed Federal fighter because I thought it would be the best compromise. In the last year I switched to the beam armed Imperial and now I have a weapon that works.

Strange I notice and therefore react to station and carrier voices but other than not being annoying or unintelligible I couldn’t tell you a thing about my SLF pilots voice.
 
I called them Tamagotchi when they were a new feature & still think of them as a kind of pet, but they are useful (even at harmless) as a distraction and once they go above around expert or so (ie once they can boost & use pips) they can reduce the incoming fire I receive from smaller attacking NPC ships & occasionally I can just leave them to deal with lower ranked NPCs while I find the next target.
I don't mind logging out in the middle of a mining session because I prefer to mine in my 'vette and NPC pirates usually don't match up. One time, when I logged in I saw a high rank 'conda and a high rank T10 both headed my way and I thought it might finally get interesting. My SLF pilot engaged the T10 all by her lonesome giving me the time to finish the 'conda in short order. I thought I'd have to rescue the SLF but the T10 was such a whale that it wasn't able to target the SLF while the SLF was able to fly circles around it and keep denting it's shields. Had a good laugh when I closed in and saw what was happening.
 
Crew slots are determined by ship, but we can only activate a single crew member. However, we can pruchase a Fighter Hangar capable of launching more than one ship, yet, we cannot actually launch more than one SLF, whether one is NPC and another is PC, or any other combination. WHAT?

I propose alternate suggestions, both of which will make use of a 2-fighter hangar (aside from rapid deployment).

Solution 1: Allow ships (even if restricted to certain class ships) to employ and activate multiple crewmen. And allow us to launch multiple fighters at once. Larger ships with fighter bays should be able to fart out 2 figters at once.

Solution 2: Allow 2-fighter deployment but require one of those fighters to be piloted by the player. This will prevent swarms and could offer some actual usefulness to owning a second bay and SLF.

I want the solutiont o be simple and obvious without asking too much. It just doesn't make sense to me to offer a 2-bay hangar when only a single SLF can be deployed ever. Honestly, the quick deployment once a fighter is destroye by switching to a secondary bay seems more akin to a workaround than intention.

Yes! Two fighters of NPC's would be neat. Also the waiting time if both are destroyed ;_;
But still, would be fun.
 
Apparently was fixed this patch, but there were reports that they're still inducing lag.
Maybe because they did not fix the lag inducing mechanisms, but they actually prevented commanders to spam orders using hotkeys and also preventing spam of an order that was already in effect.

Yeah this^. They never fixed the issue itself, they just mitigated the symptoms (to a certain extent). Ironically, there used to be a time when launching NPC fighters did not lead to lag (until one of the usual bug ridden updates broke something in 2019).
