Allow users to use their naval rank as a prefix instead of CMDR

Just a simple suggestion, shouldn't be too much work, but will of course require the dreaded UI work.

Naval ranks are completely invisible to other users, no NPC even acknowledges my Kingly status.

Why not allow users to select a :

  • CMDR
  • Empire Rank
  • Federal Rank
option in the right UI panel.

Player names would then appear with their selected prefix style to other players.

For example...

  • Knight Braben
  • King Sandro
  • Admiral Thrust
This would add some level of value to ranking systems.

If the choice is mine I'm fine with it.
I don't like the Imperial ranks.
I would feel ridiculous being called King.
I would feel ridiculous meeting other players called 'King' too.
But I play solo to avoid this kind of disturbing nonsense, so I'm good.

I personally feel that 'cmdr' is all I need.

I like this idea a lot!

Not until they add alliance ranks as if else it would just be unfair.

Unfair? How so? It isn't as if a displayed (or not) title would give one player an advantage over another.

The Alliance does not have a dedicated navy.
No navy, no Navy Ranks. This has nothing to do with fairness.

Jep... Alliance ranking is missing.

I do not believe the Alliance has a ranking system.

You understand your CMDR is not actually in those navies, right? You understand those ranks are honorary, right? I am both an Admiral and a Duke, how do I get announced?

Ha! I think you are right.

Yes I think I would laugh if I saw another player with a King prefix.

Also Kings everywhere!!

I likes it, that'd be pretty awesome.

It'd be pretty neat if the different systems only acknowledged you according to their alignment: Imperial space --> Imperial rank; Federation space --> Federal rank; Independent/Alliance Space --> CMDR

But we could still display whatever our preferred affiliation is to other players.

- Or -

We could set the designation across the board, and if you're going by your Imperial rank, you'd see a degradation in your relationship with the Feds and the stations would be a little cooler toward you, while in Imperial space, you'd be more warmly welcomed and treated according to your rank (regardless of Elite status).

So cool an idea!
